Question about D-Link DIR-625 (790069292637) Wireless Router
My router puts me online and drops me periodically . How do I keep a constant connection?
You may want to issue IP addresses.
The computer has to knock-on the routers door and ask for directions home as its address changes everytime it leaves home (switched off)
If you give it a permanent key to its own door it tends to be more reliable
The same applies to both wireless and wired connections.
Find the RUN command and type cmd
In the black screen that pops up type ipconfig /all
Take note of the number by "default gateway" and "DNS servers" then close the box.
Now find the properties for your connection if it is on your toolbar just right click it and then click status, then properties.
Scroll down to Internet Protocol (tcp/ip), highlight it and click properties.
If its not on your toolbar
Call up your control panel and select Network Connections
If you have more than one don’t worry
Right click the first one and select properties
Scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) highlight it then click properties
There are boxes here where you are going to type numbers.
Click the "Use the following IP address"
If your default gateway (router) is lets say 192.168.2.1 Then I would use 192.168.2.10 as the first number
The second box is 255.255.255.0
The third box would be 192.168.2.1 (same as your router address)
The two DNS numbers at the bottom can be got from the numbers you wrote down early on when you just had the modem connected
Now click OK
If you have more than one connection available then go to the next one. It may complain about the number already being used tell it to ignore that.and do the same EXCEPT the first IP I would use 192,168,2.11. The rest would be the same as before.
Now move on to the next computer and do the same again but this time in the first box I would jump by ten so the IP would be 192.168.2.20
Again if it has more than one connection then do the same as above and advance the number by one in the top box
Next machine same deal advance by ten.
Once you have all your computers done then shut EVERYTHING down
Power up the modem and WAIT until all the correct lights are on.
Then do the same with the router.
Now power up a pc and check that you can surf without problems
