Question about Motorola Mobility E815

My e815 keypad seems dead - power button is the only one working

I can use a wired headset with the phone to make voice commands. I can turn the phone on and off. All of the other keys seem non-functional. I am able to transfer files and contacts to and from the phone with the adapter cable and Motorola Phone Tools. My warrenty is up so I don't want to go to Verizon. Can the keyboard be locked somehow? How can I unlock it if so?When I turn the phone on while depressing the camera button, the camera starts up but all buttons except the power button are inoperative. The phone works to make and receive calls using the wired headset, and it can receive text messages (though I don't see a voice command that lets me read them). Any ideas?

If your keypad is indeed purposefully locked and for some strange reason there is no screen message to that fact, you can try pressing the Menu key then the asterisk key to unlock it. But, I'm afraid Marinora is likely correct. The E815 phones are quite problematic.

Had a similar problem and found that if i held the green "send" button down for about two miutes, it beeped and "reset' itself or something and my key pad started working again! Alternativevley, another option I found that worked for someone is this (thanks to alltell tech support MoTohulligan)
It seems like the tones aren't going through when you're on an active call. Try this: Menu>Settings>Ring Styles>Loud>Loud Detail> make sure Key Volume is set to 7. Then, go to the Initial Setup menu and change DTMF to Long. Then, go to Settings>Personalize>Sound Settings> make sure Number Dialing is set to DTMF.

Basically, what these settings do is make sure that your phone is using tones when the keys are depressed and the volume is on. Based on your post, it appears that the keys are actually working so the settings are making it so, when you are on an active call, the tones are not being sent or something is wrong with your phone so that the tones are not being sent. If updating the settings doesn't fix the issue, you will probably need to have the phone repaired, if it is under warranty.

Hi. If you re attached to the phone you can purchase a new keypad. Otherwise you need a new phone.
The inner keypads of cell phones can become corroded after extensive use. Also as a result of being kept in a hot area.

How to make a voice call

Are you sure the phone is voice command capable? To set up on the phone you must follow commands to repeat several letters, numbers & words. If you have done that then push the button on the headset & you should hear "say a command".

Voice Dialing Issues

I am sad to say that the voice recognition failure is permanent on most of the E815 phones. Your phone will likely never support voice dialing again, even though the cause remains unknown.

I too had the peculiar problem of pressing the voice button and hearing a beep, but no voice prompt ("Say a command"). When I researched the issue, I found a plethera of similar problem reports. Very few reported recovery after simply restarting the phone. I even found one report of Motorola tech support giving up and instructing the owner of the phone to have it replaced.
