Question about Canon i80 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Canon i320, needs printhead installed.

I320. Canon printer keeps informing me that I need to install a Printhead. So far, by sheer luck, I've been able to get the printer working, after each warning. At this point I'm ready to look at new printers, I'm wasting too much time on trying to understand this printer. HELP?

My printer is showing the following message. "The type of printhead is incorrect. Install the correct printhead". It has worked for over a year and this just appeared.

Hi Nancy

either the printhead has developed a fault or if you had a paper jam or something like that it's possible it's not making a good electrical connection with the contacts in printer.
Sometimes switching power off/on few times is enough to bring it back to life. If that doesn't work, you could try removing the printhead and cleaning the electrical contacts before re-installing it. If even that doesn't work, there's not much more you can do. Buy a new printer, it's cheaper than new printhead and you get a new set of cartridges with it too.
If you need advice on how to remove the printhead, you can email me directly at: ''..

good luck with it!

My printer keeps saying that the prinhead is missing and need to be installed, I took it out and installed it again and it keeps saying the same thing

it could be more serious, but I would put in the printhead and then unplug the printer and then wait a few seconds and plug it back in. it might clear the code. otherwise it might be your print head bad.

good luck

I removed the printhead, cleaned it with a damp paper towel and q-tip,made sure it was dry, I then installed the printhead, and turned on the printer. It moved the printhead to the far right as normal,...

We must not rub it with any materials, so its head were very sensitive. There is no other way to solve your problem without Changing its head..... good luck

Error code U052; keeps saying incorrect printhead installed - the printhead has never been changed

Per Canon's website, and this just worked for my mp620:
Turn the printer on.
Open the cover.
Remove the ink cartridges.
Remove the printhead.
Re-install the above (this resets the printhead).
Close the cover.
Printer should initialize and go to home menu screen.

I have a message coming saying the printer head needs to be fix. What do i need to do to get it to work.

First check for foreign objects in the printer cartridge area or a loose print head.

Then there are two possibilities if it was a Printhead error. You can replace the printhead. Order one from Canon support: 1-800-828-4040 Monday-Sunday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 midnight. EST, excluding holidays. Say Order Parts to be connected to the Parts Desk. Be sure to have your model number (i320) or part number (QY6-0044-000) ready for the sales person. This is a non-returnable item. The other option is that the entire printer needs repair (professional service).

You can't tell which issue you have until you try a new printhead.

I wish that I could be of more help.

I have new printhead.

First, go to Canon i9900 Support

If the Support & Service tab is not selected, click on it.

In the search box type reseating printhead and click Search.

One of the results will be "How do I reseat/remove the printhead?"

Click it. A step by step (with animation) will be shown. Just install the new printhead when it calls to reseat the printhead.

Make sure you do the printhead alignment after installing. if you are unsure about how to do this, go back to the support page above and search for align printhead. There will be step by step instructions for this too.

Thanks for using Fixya.

It keeps giving the alert wrong cartridge and wont print.I installed for the 1st time ink power cartridge instead of canon's and it won't do nothing........... these cartridge are half price but look...

Wrong cartridge refers to the printhead and not the inks. This machine, when the printhead goes bad gives that error. A new printhead is around $60.00 for that machine. QY6-0064-000.

Here is the Cannon Service Tool... you should be able to reset the printhead error using this. I've never used it myself, but it is the only fix other than a service call that I know of.
Cannon charges almost $100 for this tool... here its free.
