Maytag Performa washer drum turns with agitator. Also the brake doesn't stop the drum at end of cycle or when cover lifted.

The first thing to check is the clutch. It's supposed to lock the inner tub and drive the transmission (agitator) when the motor turns in one direction, and spin the tub when the motor turns in the other direction. It's also possible the agitator drive shaft coming out of the transmission and the concentric tub drive shaft are frozen together (worst case) - this is usually caused by a bad bearing seal allowing water to leak into the shaft.

Lifting the lid during the spin cycle should disconnect power to the motor - maybe what you see is the tub continuing to spin because the transmission is acting as a flywheel. Either that, or the lid switch actuator is not working properly.

My maytag washer stopped working during the wash cycle. it made a clicking noise when it happened.. I pulled off the belt it is still in one piece . when i put the maching in spin with the belt off the...

If you turn the transmission pulley one way it will agitate the other it will get hard raise up to release the brake and then turn the transmission and the inner drum. If you cannot turn the drum then I would check to see if a nail has gone through one of the holes in the bottom of the drum or a piece of clothing has jammed between the top of the drum and the top cap of the outer tub.

Hoover 500M0AUS stops very frequently due to off-balance

Hi there.I'm guessing you changed the (Spin Brake Solenoid) underneath,it attaches to the brake arm,the solenoid retracts with a normal loud clunk & pulls the brake arm away..I think what is happening is the clutch spring inside that white plastic cog is not binding like it's supposed to & it's not taking the drum with the agitator is spinning independantly without the drum.the clutch spring tightens in one direction for spin & loosens in the other direction for wash.either way i think your problem is in that plastic cog & clutch spring, the spring is inside that cog & hard to can be repaired if your up to pulling the entire gearbox out to get to it.I hope this was helpful,it's kind of hard to explain by this method.cheers Chris

At the end of the spin cycle, my Kenmore Washing Machine makes a grinding noise like an out of balance brake drum. What could be the problem

If your washer model number starts with 110. it's a whirlpool washer. Whirlpool use a spin tube with two notches in it. There is a block assembly that holds the inner basket down on to the spin tube. This can be accessed by removing the top of the agitator and take out the 7/16 screw. Lift the agitator to expose the top of the spin tube. The tube is stripped on top where the basket sits. When the washer stops spinning, the inner basket keeps moving. That is the noise you hear. Replace the spin tube and possibly the block.

You may have a broken inner tub spider. Check for play between the inner drum and the outer tub by moving the inner drum up and down.
If there is excessive play, the spider is broken causing an unbalanced load and therefore no high speed spin can be achieved.

In this case the inner drum would need to be replaced, which means taking the machine almost completely apart. A good tech can do it in about 1.5 hours.

Drum spinning during wash cycle

if when in the wash cycle the tub spins then the brake in the cluch assembly is worn and to be replaced. this holds the tub from moving when in the wash cycle. thanks tallpaul
