Question about Sony KV-32S22 32" TV
32 inch Sony Trinitron tv, about 10 years old: TV screen went dark, looked like it was switched off. No power. Hitting Power button does not work. Breaker and outlet ok. Any ideas?

Six blinks of standby light in Sony TVs denotes the absence of horizontal oscillation.
No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.
In most cases the Ic is foud defective. anyway check its soldering points for any loose contact, or bad solerings. Check the line drive transformer, a very little transformer soldered directly to the main printed circuit board, very close to the horizontal output transistor. Check its primary winidngs for open. If it gets open no horizontal drive signal will be present at the base of the horizontal output transitor, that also may the cause of horizontal stop.

the symptom is usually caused by a breakdown in the power supply circuit. in most modern receivers (transistorized and/or ic), it may also be caused by a breakdown in the horizontal deflection circuits (hor. oscillator, pre-drive, or drive circuits). supply voltages for the tuner, vif, sif, and vertical output are usually supplied by the horizontal output circuit. but if you doesnt know anything about these stuffs, better bring it to a qualified service technician

Id you have no TV repair experience, play it safe and take the set into an authorized Sony repair place to estimate the cost to repair. Yes I know it would be nice to repair, but how much do you know about component level printed circuit board repair? You will need to first get a service manual, know how to read a circuit diagram, thats a schematic, and know how every circuit works with each other to make the TV set operate. I do appriciate the fact you would like to repair this yourself, but there is no magic fix in most cases when it comes to electronics. There is circuit diagnosise involved. Best advice would be to call in a pro to assist you in these types of repairs. Good Luck

fill in the spot with clear epoxy from radio shack. Place shipping tape over the epoxy and turn the screen up if possible to make the repair flat. Wipe off any excess epoxy as the tape is applied. The break refracts the light from the screen away from you and makes it appear dark. Remove the tape after the epoxy sets. Do not open the unit up. The aquadag can hold high voltage for up to a month. There should be no danger of breaking the crt itself if you're careful. Over time, recycling the power on and off may make any cracks propagate but if there are none now it should be ok.
