Question about Maytag MGR5770 Gas Kitchen Range
I have a Maytag MGR5770 gas stove. The oven shuts off as it is heating up. When it does the control panel - clock/temp etc. goes dark. After a few minutes the clock comes back on and it's possible to reset the oven temperature and start it again. Sometimes it will stay on, but most of the time it will quit again. The whole control panel area gets very hot from the oven vent which is right below it. Could some duct work in the oven have gotten loose allowing to much heat to escape resulting in the over heating of the controls? Or is something else causing the failure? Thanks, Craig

the most common problem for your description is that your bottom ignitor is not working properly just because the ignitor glows doesnt mean your ignitor is working it has to draw 3 amps or more to ignite the bottom burner part number for the ignitor is 12400035 let me know how you make out

Replace the ignitor. You will need remove the bottom plate (remove the two screws back corners). And the disconnect the wiring from behind. This little part will cost you approx. $100.

The Oven safety valve. Look for it on the base plate below your ignitor. It is a the end of the burner manifold and has 2 wires to it Check it quickly by getting to the point where it acts up. But first, Connect a voltmeter to the 2 wires (if you can with them still connected to the safety valve. When it ignites the voltage will be present. Let it cycle off like you described. Now watch it as it tries to come back on. If you get a voltage reading now that indicates everything else is working and the valve is not opening like it should in other words with the voltage to the gas valve and the ignitor glowing you should have a flame. I assume the ignitor comes back on.
If this helped you please rate me as high as you can. If it did not please restate what problem your having and help me to understand it better. Thank you for using fixya and good luck.
