Whining noise in the rear end without any odd feel to it ( such as a vibration in your hand on the wheel) is often a problem with the differential. It could be a worn pinion or a misalignment of some sort.
The noise could also be a wheel or axle bearing, but in that case you would normally also get a rough feel transmitted to the hand, as if you were driving on a rough surface or a bad tire.
The whining noise could be for many reasons. Narrowing the possibilities depends on when the noise occurs. If it happens only while decelerating at any or all speeds is most likely caused by bad pinion bearings or loose pinion bearing preload. If it happens during acceleration over a small or large speed range is usually caused by worn ring and pinion gears.
One cheap thing to check is the fluid level in the differential. If low, topping off the lube may help for a while.

Well you can remove the sensor in the diff and make sure that looks ok they g obad quiet often also woulnd not hurt too remove the rear diff cover and inspect the rear end if it is whining and you dont see anything wrong i would refill it with lucas oil/grease and start praying check the pinion too and see if it has any play in it
SOURCE: rear end whining
if you have a constant whine that raises pitch the faster you go, you have improper backlash adjustment in the differential (rear end), if you have a whooping noise that whoops faster as you drive faster then you have a bad wheel bearing, both can be the result of low fluid level in the rear end.
SOURCE: My rear end is making a whining noise as I drive
you need to change the differential oil your "diff" is starting to go out
SOURCE: I have had a whining
yes you will you have answered your own question ,eventually the wheel bearing will need changine when the noise becomes unbearable
