What are the data cable 5 wire used for and where do they get hooked up

Do you mean the Lowrance Elite-7 HDI? Most Lowrance manuals are available here: http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Support/Documents/ . Click on the Elite series and then scroll down the list in the Select Product window. Then look at the lower right side of the page. The Operation manual and installation guide are both available. Did you back-up your data? .. if not.. oopppsssss

You most likely need to change the map data displayed.
The elite series won't change for you automatically. Lowrance Elite 7 HDI Hybrid Dual Imaging Fishfinder Chartplotter
here is a link to the elite 7 page where you can download a pdf owners manual.
go to the gps/map page on your unit. Find "chart data" on your menu.
select nation is as your chart data. Then you will be ableaving to see your map data.

There could be a bad power connection (corrosion).

red and black are the + and -
The other wires can connect up to an external NMEA device. If you are not going to connect an external device then just tape them up to get them out of the way

Hi Everyone, Has anyone install EP-60R Fuel Sensor unit to Elite 7 HDI ? I have hustle making it work. Appreciate if anyone successfully solve similar problem. Dan

You do not need the data cable connected unles you are hooking it up to other electronics, ie computer, second GPS sounder ect. You only need to conect the red to the positive on the battery and the black to the negative.
