Question about LaCie Hard Disk 1TB Desktop with Hi-Speed USB2.0 USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

From customer no"GBW 051809". MY D2 BIGGER TRIPLE EXTREME II power seems to be faulty. It supplies power (blue light) but although discs start to power up do not appear on the desktop when connected by firewire or USB. However using a smaller power supply (for my Big disc triple interface) all works normally. Furthermore when I exchanged the power pack for the newer one supplied with my Big disc extreme triple interface neither of these lacie drives appeared to mount although both initiate disc activity. I seem to have two power packs (both Lacie model no:ACU057A-0512 THAT DO NOT WORK WITH ANY OF MY 4 EXTERNAL LACIE DRIVES. 2 SMALLER (SUNFONE PACKS DO WORK)- PLEASE ADVISE

The power adapter must be faulty, replace it with a new one.

I have an old LaCie d2 160GB Hard Drive Extreme with Triple Interface (circa 2005)... I have lost my power cord and I can't seem to be able to find one online to purchase...Does anyone know where I can...

Hello,
your drive can be used with any D2 or Big Disk power supply as well as some LaCie Porsche power supplies (you need to make sure the connector is the same).
Searching for LaCie Power supply on eBay will give you a few hits that match your needs.

I have 3 2TB lacie bigger disk triple interface. I use them to backup my data. Unfortunely I lost 2 power supply so I used one for all. Yesterday I backup up all my data on one disk, I unplug this and...

If the power supply doesn't delivers the correct current the hard disks can't spin fast enough and this is detected as a failure by the pc, which cuts the connection. Hopefully by replacing the source all will go back to normal. Otherwise you will have to crack open the cases, remove the disks and install them directly in a desktop to try to access the data on them.

have you checked the output on the power adapter when you plugged in? if not, there is no hard reset for the drive. you just have to isolate the board on you external hdd.

Deference Lacie d2 Quadra1TB/Lacie big disk ?

It's all about the interfaces.
The Quadra has four interfaces: • eSATA • FW 400 • FW 800 • USB 2.0
The triple has all but the eSATA interface listed above.
For doing video work you want a big drive with a fast interface. If you have eSATA available then that's the fastest. If you don't then you're just as well off to go with the triple interface. The FW 800 would be the next fastest, then the USB 2.0, then the FW 400.
Because of the way that data is transferred I believe that when doing video work you would be best served by the FW 400 instead of the USB 2.0 even though the USB is faster I don't believe it is a full duplex communication so the FW 400 is actually better for video.

La cie hard drive mount issues

I had the same problem and surprisingly, after many attempts to get the drive to mount with different connections, etc., the problem turned out to be the power adapter. If you've got the same kind of adapter on another drive, switch it out and see if your drive shows up. Good luck.
