Scroll wheel not working.

I have had the MS Arc mouse for less than a week and the scroll wheel does not work, it feels as though it is just free wheeling, everything else seems to be working besides the scroll function?

The wheels on these mice are notoriously flimsy, as I found out to my dismay after purchasing one.

There's a blog post with DIY repair instructions here http://dompruitt.com/2008/11/24/fixing-the-scroll-wheel-on-the-microsoft-arc-mouse/

Scroll wheel stopped working. It feels weird now when i try to scroll it. How do i fix it?

Disconnect the mouse from the computer and turn it upside down. The screws to disassemble the mouse are under the pads on the bottom of the mouse. When you disassemble the mouse, you will find that the scroll wheel axle is gummed up, and the interruptor wheel is probably dirty. Use an old tooth brush and alcohol to clean the scroll wheel components, and let the components dry. You can use glue to re-attach the pads after you have reassembled the mouse.

Try switching ports and check. Try using it on another computer and check if it works or not. If it still does not then replace it

Scroll wheel stopped turning, seems to be hanging up due to an alignment problem. How can I open it to take a look inside?

If your scroll wheel turns but you don't feel the 'notches' it is most likely stripped. I've repaired my Logitech, and based on what I saw inside, I doubt that it's an alignment issue.

If it's stripped, and the hexagonal end of the wheel's axle that fits into the receptor has lost its hex shape, I have a perfect fix.

I tried gluing it, but that only lasted as long as the glue. What I did instead was remove the wheel, thread a thin rubber band through the receptor, pull the rubber band tight and then reinstall the wheel. Once tension on the rubber band was released, it expanded again, making a tight friction fit of the wheel's axle and the receptor.

Hope that helps.

Scroll wheel no longer scrolls

Turn mouse off, get a clean sheet of paper, rub mouse wheel on paper on a smooth hard surface - this will clean any dirt preventing scrolling. Works for Blackberry trackballs as well - but be careful with scratching the screen.
