Question about Motu UltraLite FireWire Audio Interface with MIDI Sound Card

3 Answers

I have a MOTU ultralite. When I plug in a guitar/mic etc I have a meter reading - but there's no sound coming through headphone socket. In addition Logic 8 (running on both a MAC Pro and ManBook Pro) now does not recognise the interface: it comes up with a message: 'the previously selected audio interface is not available.' Originally the problem arose because I was not able to get any sound out of the laptop through the headphone socket which is what I use for the Mac Pro. At one point the Apple helpdesk suggested I run both at once - is it possible that I 'blew' the ultralite by connecting 2 computers (via Firewire) at once? Or is it more of a basic interface problem? Either way, is there a solution or will the unit need a repair job? Please advise Thanks Matthew Davis

Thank you - that's what I suspected. Would this need an accredited dealer?

This problem arisses because of connecting two computer at once. now you have to go to nearby service shop and tell him the problem, he will restore the factory default settings........within few mins you will be able to connect it again............have a nice day :-)

Headphone socket is possibly faulty or you are plugged into the mic socket or there is a separate volume control to drive the speakers or the driver is not installed correctly.

Hello,
Have you installed the driver for it? Look for the DVD that came with it and install it. After installing the driver, update it. You can use RadarSync to automate the updating process of your computer.

I dealt with Beatles Rockband Wii on 2 systems with 2 different configurations.
  1. Wireless Drum kit configuration. The Drum USB Transmitter has 2 additional USB ports, that allow Guitar/mic to be connected, plus there is the remaining USB port on the Wii
  2. Wired Drum kit comes with a 4 port USB hub, connect the hub to the Wii, and connect all instruments to the USB hub.
The Wii will only allow 4 controllers connected at once. So if you have multiple Wii Motes, then you may have to disconnect all but the one used for the Mic player (Press 1 on the Wii mote to unsync or remove the batteries)

More than likely not connected on motherboard as most of the cheaper board as only support one sound out.

Digitech Vocalist Live 4 blead through

You need a directional microphone, and then it needs to be pointed away from the guitar. Another technique would be to provide some acoustic insulation between the mic and the guitar, like a wall or a partition like what is used to set up office cubicles.

You've got two inputs on the DP-02 so you can record two sources at once.

Depending on how you want the electric guitar recorded (mic the amp, or direct line in) you can in the first case plug your guitar mic into one of the mic inputs on DP02 and plug your vocal mic into the other mic input. You also have the option of plugging the guitar directly into the DP02 (using the hi-z input - I believe it is labelled 'guitar' or something on the DP02. I any event I believe it's the one on the left). This way you only need one mic for use recording the vocal part.

To avoid any 'bleed' between channels you can use the headphones while recording this way and you'll avoid having the unamplified guitar sound coming through over the vocal mic.

Once you have the mics or guitar and mic plugged into two inputs, you need to assign the inputs to a channel (track) to record on. You do this by pressing the select button for the input and then pressing the select button for the track where you want to record the input. Do this for both inputs so that they are recording on different tracks. Then arm the tracks for recording by pressing the record button for each track and the lighted buttons will flash above each armed track. Then just press play and record and you'll be recording. You can go back and redo it as many times as you like and record over what is there, or preserve a take and assign a new track (or tracks) for another take. You've got 8 to play with.

Hope this helps.

Low record level for guitar

first of all you want to have your guitar amp at a decent volume but too loud, just enough to be able to get a good signal. when you have done this turn up the gain on your mic channel so that your VU meter (level meter) on the recording software shows a reading of about half way up the meter. If you can not achieve this with the soundcard alone increase the gain on your channel in the software.

This sound guarantee a good signal but as with most recordings you will still have to boost the signal without it peaking. to do this use a compressor or a limiter and turn the gain up. if you use these dynamic effects correctly you will achieve the guitar level you want.
