Question about GE WSM2700D Top Load Stacked Washer / Dryer

Kenmore 80 series won't spin

Kenmore 80 series, dual action agitator. Washer quit last night while in spinning cycle - Makes loud humming sound in spin cycle. It drains and fills up OK. Recently change motor-coupler. Checked it again just to be sure. Checked out fine. Lid switch & pump also checked out OK. Looking at your help page, I don't know how to test if my motor to verify it isn't bad. Also don't know how to troubleshoot transmission, belt or clutch problems. Please help. Thanks.

Washer will not spin full, but empty seems to be fine. Making a humming noise in either situation.

Tub stated banging (real loose inside) and machine stopped spinning. Makes a loud grinding sound or hum.

Tranny blew out as described by other. The washer is only a few years old. From the comments I've seen on the web, this is a common problem. Mfg defect!

If it is draining then the motor is turning the pump so it is ok.
This washer has no belt so that is not the problem.
Remove the cabinet and bypass the lid switch wires and put into a spin. Watch the clutch to see if it is turning. If the clutch housing is not turning and you know for sure the coupler is not broken then you need a new transmission. If the clutch housing is turning but the basket is not spinning you have something binding the basket or you need a new basket drive and clutch.
If you have only looked at the coupler from underneath you may not be able to tell if it is broken in the center. If it is broken again your transmission is not staying in neutral drain until the water is drained. That means it is going into spin with full load of clothes and water. This puts a lot of pressure on the coupler and causes them to fail prematurely. If this is the case you will need a new transmission.
Post back if you have any questions.

My washer is making a loud nosie when agitation starts

That is a normal sound when the transmission shifts from the last spin cycle to go into the agitate cycle. It should make a loud click sound that does not last longer than a second. There is nothing wrong with your washing machine.

Kenmore 90 plus series washer won't spin, barely agitates, will drain - but makes loud noise

It sounds like the transmission is done. Can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but I would start there.

I just replaced the transmission on my Kenmore 80. No agitation

your motor turns one way for the spin cycle and the other way for agitate. remove the coupler and test it that way.

Motor is humming loudly.

Motors hum, and your right, it could be no worse than normal.

I would be suspect that there is a gear stripped in the gearcase, since this is a direct drive washing machine.

Reassemble the motor back onto the washer. Run it through a cycle manually (rotate the timer by hand) until the motor turns, then look to see if it's turning. If it is, or even more so, if it pumps water out of the tub, then it is probably the stripped out gearcase.

Reply with you findings and more advice.

Broken Washer

it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem. 0404472.jpg

worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.
