I pod doesnt hold its charge or even switch on

i pod suddenly "died" when I was training and wouldnt re charge then it started to charge after being left for a day. It then charged and battery appeared full but it only lasted 1 hour. Now nothing is showing on the screen at all even though have plugged it on to charge.It's just a year old.
