Red convergence real distorted for mitsubishi ws-65807

I've read numerous articles online regarding this television set (mitsubishi ws-65807) for convergence problems, my tv red convergence is way out, will not align horizontaly and gets worse from the center to the sides of the television, mostly on the lower right, the red convergence on top of the picture is wavy, i've read about replacing the ic's or what have you but I need photos or parts descriptions so I know what im looking at. im very good with electronics especialy automotive. is it worth the repair that the tv is 5 yrs old and somthing else might happen soon or should i just get a new one with a waranty this time, I live in the bay area and they want $300 to $400 just to come to my house, who knows what the total would be. that would be a good down payment on a new one. any smple fixes or suggestions would be appreciated, sory about the spelling i make money with my hands. I have had the tv apart to search for anything obvious, all solder conections look good and everything else seems good other than the fact the inside was very dusty but thats been taken care of. thank you for youre time. I have the mitsubishi ws 55807 and the convergence went bad the red is out bowing on the top and bottom. The blue will still adjust but the red won't adjust side to side, but will adjust up and down.I just want to know what is going bad and how to fix it also I'm wondering how much the part will cost. I think its the red crt or an ic but I don't know

I had this problem with our Mitsubishi as well. Seemed as if the convergence was "off", but that was not really it. Also, it would come and go..sort of "pop in" and "out". It made the picture appear to "bow in" and the sides of the screen were worse. I was fortunate enough to call the right repair place, and they knew exactly what it was. The technician said that when the tv's are made, they are "float soldered" and a machine puts the same amount of solder on all circuits, even though some need more. Over time the repeated heating/cooling wears it down and someting (sorry, don't know all details) either breaks or malfunctions. She (yes, SHE) came in and replaced the part and re-soldered all connections. Total came to just over $200... which was VERY much worth it... tv looks GREAT! She said it will happen to ALL these sorts of tv's after a certain amount of viewing. The parts are called "Convergence Amp IC's" and she used two... the part number is: STK392-110 My invoice says the parts were $38 each, and thre rest was the service call and time. Very reasonable I thought. Hope this helps.

This may sound crazy, but applying heat with a hair dryer to the center lower air holes in the back of the tv just above the power cord for anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes solves the problem. But it must be done everytime the TV is turned on

Mitsubishi ws-65807 series ... convergence going bad? i tried fixing it several times on menu: advance, the convergence red and blue looks well for only about 3mins or so then goes out of sync...

It is very common on these and other sets. Your ws65807 is a V17 chassis that uses two of the Stk-392-570 convergence chips.

These are especially prone to being flaky or intermittant.

I am available here in the Market Place on Fixya to answer this and can provide in that area start to finish step by step instructions for this repair.

Parts cost would be under 30 dollars.

Faulty power supply

There is no separate power supply in your TV.
It is integrated into Deflection Board.
I would recommend you have real professional diagnose your TV, power supply section is rarely goes bad, it could be convergence or some other issue.

For past 6 Months The scren was bowing Horizontally and now it has sever ghosting.. What to do this TV is about 8 years old Model Number WS-65807

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

You can get the picos, the convergence ICs and the factory service manual for your model at the following link.your model is known as the V17 chassis for service manuals and you should require two STK392-570 Convergence ICs. Heres the link they provide free instalation instructions.

A man with your experience won't need photos. 1)locate center PCB--has large heat sink-- 2)using a hook tool, gently lift board edge connectors.Go slow,be gentle. 3)remove all connectors to center board (unplug) Don't worry about getting them mixed up--we have a saying--they are idiot proof. 4)remove all center board hold-down screws, includes two in sister board shield and three difficult to access in large heat sink shield. 5)gently lift PCB up and to the right while releasing hold-down plastic tabs on the front e of PCB.Replace STK IC's.Throw it in reverse-done
