Linspire i think you mean....well, frankly I would get PCLinux 2009, this what I use...but, when you setup your system please have it connected through your ethernet as it is being loaded. Then when you wish to do it wirelessly, do it through the wireless connectivity setup in either Linspire or whatever version of linux you wish to use. It works extremely well on my dell Latitude with no problems.

Have u tried uninstalling the keyboard and mouse under the device manager .. then reboot your computer

Unless you have all of the drivers for your hardware and win2000, I wouldn't try it. You'll end up with nothing working.

Linspire may have caused you to get a hard drive failure possibly. It may have one of the Linux bugs where it does hard drive seeks way too often and causes it to die out faster. These seem like the symptoms of a dieing hard drive.

If its four year old , maybe the anti virus protection you already had on it , would have expired.

You don't need virus protection in Linux. You could just switch ubuntu which is free.
