Its either going to be a problem with puffy capacitors on the main board or the lcd is going bad on it cause the backlight can't stay on.
The cost of fixing the monitor may be more then what a new one is worth but you wouldn't know unless you bring it to a repair shop and have them look at it.
Try another known working monitor to see if you get the same symptoms, if they go away then you know the original monitor is bad. if you get the same symptoms then the video card is bad.
