I assume you've checked the most often overlooked yet obvious dash switch/knob. Could be a defective door switch or wire shorted to ground (usually at a sharp metallic edge or a sharp screw penetrating the insulation); you may be able to find which one using an ohmmeter on lowest scale: disconnect negative terminal on car battery first, then remove all the bulbs affected, next hook the ohmmeter between ground and the one of the two wires going to one of the lights. The meter will read almost 0.00 ohms but not quite. (If it doesn't, try the other wire.) Now open each door, one by one. If you see any change that is repeatable, that door switch is working. If you come to a door that is not working, there will be no change and that is the one to replace and/or check the wiring to. Let me know if you need help at that point. BTW, ohmmeter is part of DMM digital multimeter selling for $6-20. Interior lights will not turn off - 1ak+f4pj7cbm32cuniyi2gaaaaaelftksuqmcc

Where is the courtesy light switch in the drivers door on a 1998 Navigator

courtesy light switch , is door ajar switch an it's part of the door lock actuator . Light on coming on ? Not going off ? The ajar switch is a input to the GEM module , fords BCM - body control module . The GEM will energize a relay to turn on the lights .
The GEM will illuminate the interior lamps when any door is open or ajar. The interior lamps are; the dome lamp, the rear cargo lamp, the door courtesy lamp and the side rail lamps. The courtesy lamps will shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry feature is not active or when the vehicle speed is greater than 5 mph (8 km/h). The interior lamps will not be reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 3 mph (5 km/h) and a new door open warning lamp switch is received.
The GEM controls the interior lamps illuminated entry function by activating the interior lamp relay.
Mite be a good idea to have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .

Rear door lights and key lights won't shut off in my 1993 Cadillac sedan deville

There is a light control module under the dashboard near the radio. It provides interior lighting delay and automatic interior light function. When this module fails, the back lights and key lights will remain on.

Interior lights stay on while driving and after the ignition is shut off.

I would check your door jamb switches first, they are spring loaded and you can check them by pushing each one in and move your finger and they should pop back out without any restriction. When the springs are open your interior lights should come on and when pressed in turned off. Also be sure to check your console dimmer control/interior light switch as well to make sure it is functioning properly

How do you get the interior lights to come on when a door is open

Hi, viewer. The interior light is powered and controlled by the body control module or BCM. However, there is an on/off button beside the main headlight switch that overrides the interior lighting function. If this button is off, interior lights will not come on regardless of any door being closed or opened.

If this button is on, interior lights will come on whenever a door is opened. If you close all doors, and if the driver door is the last to be closed, the interior lights will stay on for about 30 sec and then the lights goes off automatically. In case you left any door opened too long, the BCM has an internal timer that will shut off the interior lights automatically when it detects that a door is still opened and the allowable time has elapsed. The BCM is programmed this way to protect the battery circuit and functions. : )

some times the door switch can be faulty. and it may be coincidence that the interior switch is faulty too. i have owned alot of S- series trucks and a few of them have done this to me. you need to individually check each door for switch contact
