Question about Swintec Office Equipment & Supplies

Swintec 8000 types on top of itself when used as computer printer

I have a Swintec 8000 Typewriter. I am trying to use it as a printer off of my computer. I was told to use the Generic/text only printer setup for a driver. However, when adding a printer with that driver, the test page worked fine, but when trying to print my own documents (whether using XP or Vista, and using Word or WordPad or Works) the printer backs up the words on top of themselves occasionally even though the letters are the correct letters. Is there a better driver for Windows for this typewriter?

I have a Swintec 8016 that doesn't have a "print" key. How do I print stored files?

Hi Linda, Once upon a time, I worked on Swintec typewriters. When you speak of printing do you mean to an external printer or just allowing the thy writer to to type out of memory? What kind of printer, what type of external port. Did it ever work? With what printer? I,m not familiar with this particular typewriter , give me as much info as you can , I mean anything you can think of . The smallest detail can tip the scale. You stated there is no print key, that tells me there must be an alternative way to print. let me know what you find out. If you can take a picture of the plug ports on the back and the keyboard, in this case a picture is worth more than words! Good luck. Bret... Try spraying some WD40 on the silver shaft the carrier rides in and move it back and forth by hand with the power off.

When i turn it on it will beep every letter i enter but won't type anything it is a swintec model-600

try putting the machine in test mode. You can do this by holding down the margin release key while turning it on. Keep holding it down until it starts typing by itself. Then turn it off and on again and see if it works.

First check check the pitch selector switch to be sure it is not in proportional spacing. if it isn't push down on it and see if it goes away, if is goes away the keyboard needs repaired.

The typewriter is supposed to automatically adjust itself to the type of ribbon you have installed. Have you tried a different ribbon?
