How do I get a cox email account? I got internet service this week but did not get an email account and was told by installer he did not do that.

Don't worry about a cox internet account. It has the worst user interface, it lacks speed and generally your emails are delayed. Just get a free google account or hotmail /msn account and you'll be happier.

I recently purchased a MacBook Air and now cannot get online. I have forgotten my wireless password and i have an outdated net gear router not supported by cox...any ideas ?

Best bet is to get a new TimeCapsule and connect it to your Cox cable. Now you can set up your wireless and have full backup too.

Even if supported, old router may not give the speed you paid for with your new laptop.

Firmware upgrade for Speedstream SS2602 wireless router, we have upgraded our internet access speed to 12/5 with COX Cable and we can only get 5.5/2.5 speed. When we hook directly to COX modem we get 23/5...

The information may be a bit misleading. What COX said about DOCSIS version is for cable modem standard. The higher the number the better the speed. However, it seems that the modem is already getting THAT speed. Some other device (perhap SS2602) is slowing it down.
It seems that SS2602's WAN side only support 10Mbps connection, which, in term, limit the speed to 10Mbps each way. The actual throughput may be even lower. Should that be the case a new router would be recommanded.

Emails no longer come to Outlook but to internet provider (Cox)

Hi Martha,

When you logged in to webmail did it ask you to change your password? Does a box popup in Outlook asking you to change your password as soon as it opens?

If it does just enter your new password in the outlook window.

username: yourcoxusername
pass: your new webmail password

Well i had just bought a lynksys router from my friend with no software cd so right now i am trying to download the software online so when i switch my cox modem with the linksys modem i want the software...

You should be able to get any software that you need from LinkSys.com but I have a couple of quick questions first:

1. Is the LinkSys unit you just purchased a router or modem?

If the unit is a router, you are still going to need a Cox compatible modem. If the unit is a modem, you will still need a router to complete the network setup unless LinkSys makes a combination cable router/modem, and I haven't been able to research one.

2. If it is a modem, is it a cable modem and, if it is, is it Cox compatible?

According to the Cox Web Site, the only models of LinkSys modems that are currently compatible with the Cox High Speed Cable Internet Service are:

BEFCMU10 v3
BEFCMU10 v4
WCG200
WCG200 v2
CM100

In this particular case, you may need to contact LinkSys and/or your Internet Service Provider. In most cases, they will not only tell you exactly what type of equipment you need, they will also talk you through setting up the network once you have the equipment - usually at no charge.

Wizard software installation

You can disable this piece of software within the windows registry or from the "Start", "All Programs", "Start Up" folder.

At least you can turn it off until you find the correct disk to un-install it.

In some cases, if you have the correct disk, reinstalling the software is necessary prior to un-installing.
