Any PCI network card should work your machine. When you go to buy one, just look for PCI on the box and wireless if need be.

Yes, it could be or it needs to be removed and then re installed.
You can go into tcp/ip properties and see if you can uninstall the network card.
I am not sure be here remotely that the physical network card works or not.
If there isn't green light showing on the network card ( this will be on the back of the desktop) then it may be that you will need a new one but uninstalling it and physically removing it from the desktio and then reinserting it ( with the power off of course) and with the desktop shut down without the network card in the desktop 1st. Then re inserting the network card in the PCI slot and powering up the PC maybe all that it needs to reinstall it ( plug and play) that is.

Time warndr says slow connection caused by faulty network card. OEM card part of motherboard. What do I need to buy?

Your motherboard in this PC has two PCI cards, and one PCI express card. You may have one of these free to install an Ethernet card. If the PCI express slot is open, it is your first choice. The ethernet cards are labeled PCIe. There are many brands to choose from. Your system is using an Intel based LAN card.
Tiger Direct sells a PCIe Ethernet card for $49 made by DLink and a Trendnet PCI card for as little as 7.99. I have used both brands and they work well. The PCIe is faster.

Has An Acer Travelmate 243LC laptop got a build-in Wireless?

The link below will take you to a page on the Acer Web site that shows the specs for this laptop. According to the specs, this laptop does not come with onboard wireless (if this feature were part of the system, it would be listed in the specs). Also, you can check Device Manager to see if you have a Wireless Adapter listed under Network Adapters. If you don't see any type of Wireless adapter listed then you'll definitely know that your laptop doesn't have it built in.

To access Device Manager:
Right-click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Manage
In the left navigation pane, click Device Manager.
In the larger window, scroll down the list to Network Adapters.
Expand the Network Adapters tree to see the installed adapters.

http://www.acersupport.com/notebook/html/tm243lc_specs.html

However, the specs do show that this laptop has 2 PC Card slots. These slots give you at least a couple of options for connecting to the Internet. You can buy an Air Card that is installed in one of the PC Card slots when you want to use it to access the Internet. My company used to provide Air Cards for laptop users through AT&T. The advantage is that you have an uninterrupted connection to the Internet no matter your location.

You can also buy a WiFi card that fits into a PC Card slot. This card will be your Wireless NIC (adapter) providing you with the means to set up connections to wireless networks. Linksys is a pretty good brand and fairly easy to install and support. After installation and configuration, you can pop the card in your PC Card slot anytime you want to connect to a Wireless network then remove it when it's no longer needed.

I hope this helps you connect wirelessly using your laptop. Please rate this solution and thanks for using Fixya.

LAN PROBLEM i cant get internet connection? pls help me

Sounds like you are connected to a wired LAN. You need to make sure your network card is getting a signal. Check in control panel and see if you have a network connection. If you do have connection. You may just just need to reset your Internet settings to default and restart the computer. You also can do a repair of your network connection and see if this helps. Really need to know what type of network your tying to connect. It it a business or home Internet?
