I do not know what make or model range you have, but MOST gas ranges made today do not have a pilot light. The surface igniters are usually ignited by an electric spark type igniter on each burner and the oven bake and broil manifolds each have a glow bar or spark igniter as well. If you are having problems with oven ignition, the following link will explain the type of igniters used, how to troubleshoot the problem and steps necessary to replace:

Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions. If my diagnosis is incorrect, please post back and elaborate a bit more on your symptoms so I can better assist you. Please provide a brand name and model number as well. I hope you find this information helpful.

Oven pilot went out due to power outage. I don't know where the pilot oven light is. where is the pilot light to light the oven?Ge XL44

pilot over lights do not require power to stay light or should it go out in a power outage! do you have to normally light pilot with a match? if not you have a glow coil and its a electronic ignition range and power will affect it. once power is restored you should just be able to turn on over and everything would be ok.if it is a pilot light you need to remove the bottom door stick arm in to back and you'll see the pilot assembly at back if you look up! hopethis helps...

Read the instructions on how to light the pilot but where I need to put the match I am not sure where to direct the flame to. I see the housing for the pilot but not where inside

You noted above it is a Coleman forced air Heater with a electronic ignition? You don't need a match to light the pilot, it lights automatic on a call for heat at the thermostat. If it does not light, then you have other problems. Let me know.
Good Luck,

We smell gas and our landlord said might be pilot light?? been using the stove all week we just moved in

Hi, Does this oven have electronic ignition?
If the pilot light is out, the burners will not light when you turn it on.
If this does have a pilot light, pop the top up and ight the pilot with a lighter or match. The pilot should be between the 2 burners.
please let me know if I can assist you further.

I have an old ideal elan 2 boiler. The pilot light has gone out and wont re-ignite. I have pressed the ignition switch in but there is not even a spark. Does anybody know where the re-set button is on...

Hi, to light the pilot you must first ensure the gas valve button (Grey with 3 symbols on it) is placed in the ignition position, then, while holding the button in towards the gas valve depress the orange ignitor button several times, hold the gas valve button in for about 30 seconds once the pilot lights. If it fails to light and you cannot see a spark when you depress the ignition button the cable could be faulty, the ignitor corroded or damaged or the pilot could be blocked or the gas turned off. If it is an Elan 2 CF boiler there is no reset button.

Oven will not light

Most gas ranges currently available employ one of 3 basic gas ignition systems; pilot ignition, hot surface ignition system (which uses a 'glow bar' or 'glow coil' - aka an "ignitor") and a spark ignition system. The latter two being referred to as "electronic ignition" systems as they use electricity in one form or another to operate the oven heating system. Only the pilot ignition system has an actual "pilot" (which is a small but real "flame") which might need manual lighting.

If the surface burners of a range are a spark ignition type, the oven IS one of the possible kinds of electronic ignition systems and thus will not usually have a "pilot" which needs lighting. Be aware though that just because the surface burners might light via a spark doesn't necessarily mean the oven uses the spark type ignition system too. spark-anim1.90x11.gif
There is one older style of electronic ignition system which does also use an oven pilot but it is very rare and such a system hasn't been used in oven models since the early to mid 70's. It is the 'constant pilot' *electronic ignition* system
