Uneseat and reseat memory once stick at a time in each slot one at a time. Turn on the computer after each stick reinsertion and see if you can get video. If you get video, try to go into the BIOS. If you can then its a matter of reinstalling windows. If you can't get into the BIOS and it locks, try a different known good working hard drive and if that works then go ahead and restore your system back to factory defaults.

If your gettting intermittent video no matter what you do then your motherboard is bad and would have to be replaced.

okay so at least we got video so we know the motherboard is probably good.

You will have to reload your laptop back to factory defaults. Do you have the discs that came with the laptop originally?

You'll need either a windows xp or vista cd depending on what you want to put on your laptop or you'll need the toshiba recover disks and there are you usually two of them. It would install the operating systsem and the other disk would install the drivers and utilities.

Its can be restore either way. Since the laptop was bought used and its freezing up alot on you now, I would think that it has a bad hard drive in it. Best thing to do would be to get a known working good hard drive into the system and then do a restore with your windows disc and it should install the whole way. Give that a shot.

Wont boot past toshiba logo

Unplug the AC adaptor, remove the battery, then press and hold the power button down for a minimum of 30 seconds. Now replace the battery and see if it powers up. If not repreat the process but this time leave the battery out and only plug in the AC. If it still doesn't power on repeat the process again and this time replace the battery and plug the AC back in. If it still doesn't power up it's time to start checking the hardware. Remove the ram and try it with only one stick. You might need to try each one individually to see if either works. If that doesn't help remove the hard drive and see if it will post to the Toshiba screen. If that doesn't help you'll probably need to take it to a service center.

Will not Power Up. I hit the Power button, green LED lights up for about 3 seconds (cooling fans start), but then shuts down. The battery is 3 months old, and the Power Supply is working.

Remove the battery and the power adapter. Now just plug in the power adapter and boot the laptop. Will it boot and remain on? If so then the battery is faulty. If not try a different power adapter, the worst case is that the system has failed. -Ravi Shanghavi

Blinking AC light with/without battery, computer shuts down

I want to try a very simple thing, cause it happened to me, while I am working on my computer , it shut down unexpectedly... cause the processor is working with its full performance and no enough cooling around the laptop. so while I move to other place and also I raise the laptop a little bit from the back to let the fans (bottom of the laptop) works perfectly .
try to open it again and do so.... may be it is a so simple thing that was far from your mind like I was before... good luck

Toshiba Satellite A60 powers up then off after 2 seconds

Mark F K, truong808, does the cooling fan(s) blow or come on? If not, the system will sense tha ti is overheating and will shut down to prevent further damage. Also, a thermal sensor may be failing on the Mobo and thus keep the fan from initiating. The cheapest fix is to replace the fan. Worst case scenario is another Mobo may be the fix.
