that's just about the only thing I haven't tried yet! Also, I was wondering what setting the top tension should be on. If I put it higher than 1, the thread won't pull through. Is this normal? That's with any fabric. Now I'm trying to embroidery handkerchiefs and I"m having the balling/threading issues. Thanks for your help, I look forward to hearing back!

I have to loosen it for the thin materials?

  • jkmohio Jun 26, 2009

Ok, I'm trying that now. I'm noticing as my upper thread feeds, it gets very loose and I thought that was the problem orginially, so I started adjusting the upper tension, etc. I just loosened the lower, I'm going to see what the machine does.

you said the tension, on top, should be on 1. Is that for all embroidering or just for this thin fabric? So far, it hasn't jammed.

  • jkmohio Jun 26, 2009

Ok, so it hasn't jammed, at this point, but now I can see the white bobbin thread (I'm using blue on top) coming up through into some of the letters. Is this the same tension issue?

Thanks so much! I can now finish embroidering those Father's Day handkerchiefs!! You were so helpful!

Your thread tension needs adjustment.

Most likely it is the lower thread tension (not the upper thread tensioner).

When sewing very thin or very heavy material - it is required to adjust the lower tension as well.

To regulate the lower thread tension - turn the small screw on the tension spring of the bobbin case with a small screwdriver.

To increase tension - turn it clockwise SLIGHTLY.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

that should be on 1, and the lower tension should also be LOOSENED by turning counterclockwise.

The tension is adjusted based on the thickness of the material. Less tension for lighter material... and a test should always be conducted before trying the final product so the tension is adjusted properly.

yes - it will require constant test adjustment until you get it how you want it. It will get easier with more use and practice.
    Dont give up!!

How to replace spool pin on brother se 350 sewing machine

Is this a chromed metal shaft that stick straight up?
IF SO, the broken piece can be PROBABLY be unscrewed using pliers. Then you have the thread size, the piece, that you can take to a hardware store and get a long blot this the same threads.
The part can probably be found on the internet using or on eBay.

How do I adjust the tension on brother SE-350?

Before you go adjusting tensions, make sure your upper thread is threaded properly. Always thread with the presser foot in the UP position so the thread can slip easily between the tension discs. Also make sure there are no wraps around the thread spool spindle.

Be certain that you have the bobbin properly inserted as well.

Once you are absolutely certain that there is no issues is threading. The tension is adjusted by a wheel on the top of the machine. Left to loosen, right to tighten the tension.

Brother SE-350 "The safety device has been activated"

Return the bobbin winding shaft on the top right of the machine to the Left Position. It may be stuck in the middle.
I had this same problem. After an hour or two of fiddling, this fixed my problem.

Loose bottom stitch on brother se 350

Hi, general rule of thumb:: loops on the top, problem on the bottom.. Loops on the bottom, problem is on the top.. When threading your machine, stop just before you thread your needle, put the presser foot down. Try pulling the thread. If it pulls easily, the thread is not thru the tension wheel right. If it pulls hard, you got it right.

Bobbin on SE 350

Hi there, this seems to be a common problem with this machine. I have owned mine for a couple months now. The problem seems to be in the threading. The only solution I have found (and others on many forums) is to rethread the machine and the bobbin. I have also re-wound some problematic bobbins as they just maybe did not wind tight enough. Don't delete your patterns, that is not the problem. I have had proffesional patterns turn out a dozen times and then give me problems only to be fine once the machine decided it was threaded properly.

Tangled thread under metal plate

-The bobbin is too lose. Tight the adjustment screw on the bobbin case a little more and test, keep doing until it's good.
-Or possibly the upper threat is too lose so it won't pulls the bottom up as well.
-Check it out and adjust it.

Good luck
