What you need to do is to take the motherboard out of there. All the screws will have to com out of the bottom of the laptop.

Then go ahead and the keyboard cover will have to come off, the keyboard itself comes out, then there will be some screws underneath the keyboard that will be holding in the top cover Once those comes out you'll have to take off the screen there will be two screw on each side of the lcd that have to come off.

At this point if threre are any wires coming from the lcd screen, they will have to be disconnected so you can pull the lcd off of the top cover to remove it completely.

Now at this point go ahead there may be a few screws holding in the mothrerboard in place. They will be labeled with arrow so go ahead and remove those.

you can now remove the motherboard from the laptop. The cpu will be underneath the cup heatsink assembly which will require some screws to remove the heatsink so now it will expose the CPU.

The cpu is in a slot that has a flathead screw holding it in place in the socket. Go ahead and turn the screw, its not meant to come all the way out so move it to the left until it stops.

Finally you can put the new CPU in place and move the screw towared the right so it tightens put the heatsink and fan back and the fan back as well. Put the screws back into the motherboard to hold it ins place.

Put the top cover back on and the lcd and wires back to were they are and then check at this point to make sure you have video and if you do then go ahead put the rest of the screws back and then you have a new updated laptop.

Want to upgrade my HP TouchSmart IQ504 Desktop PC 2.0GHz processor for a 3.1 ghz ?

First, have you ever changed/upgraded a CPU? It take quite a bit of research to upgrage. If you look at this spec of the Mobo your options are very limited, The Mobo only supports 2 different type Processors, 1, Core 2 Duo (Merom); http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/2683/Merom , 2 Core 2 Duo (Penryn): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penryn_(microprocessor) If you have a 64bit OS consider a memory upgrade, if you haven't already. Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)

I have been given a acer aspire L320 BUT THERE IS NOT A PROCESSOR IN IT. what i want to know is what processor fits.it

The Acer Aspire L320 can take 3 different processors

1. Intel Core 2 Duo

Dual Core chip with speeds from 1.8Ghz to 3.3 Ghz

2. Intel Celeron D

Dual Core chip with speeds from 1.6Ghz to 2.7Ghz

3. Intel Pentium 4

Single core chip with speeds from 1.3Ghz to 3.8Ghz

The Core 2 Duo 3.3 Ghz is the most expensive and Pentium 4 1.3 Ghz the cheapest.

Some more information is available on the Intel website, links are below:

Can i up grade my single core cpu pen4 550 3,4GHz to a Quad core or dual core either one would help

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

Celeron 540 upgrade

Aspire 4315 Specifications Specifications
Part Number
Varies by specifications
Processor / Speed
Intel Celeron mobile processor 530/540/550 (1 MB L2 cache, 1.73/1.86/2 GHz, 533 MHz FSB), supporting Intel 64 architecture
if you have a 2 Ghz processor installed, you will have to replace the motherboard to go with a faster CPU.. which will be spendy..
Hope this helps

Processor

I told you my opinion, If I was in your shoes I won't upgrade the CPU.Professionals do not do works against Factory specifications, and I fixcomputers for living.
Acer says Pentium dual is not supported on Acer 4315, I can only tell you not to do such an upgrade.
Itwould be the same as if you ask me if you can mount a Jaguar engine ona Mini, yes, for sure there is the way to mount it, but the car won'twork as it is supposed to, and risk to blow at first corner.
If you really want to replace your CPU consider the following.
Acersays pentium 2 dual core is not supported on 4315, if you do ityourself you risk to damage the computer. Do not do the CPU upgrade ifthis is your only laptop, or if you care of this laptop, chance ofdamaging laptop are high. This kind of upgrades are done more as anexperiment.
I know Core 2 Duo T5300 1.73 Ghz had been installedsuccessfully on Aspire 4315, Acer says not to install any core duo, Iknow for sure Pentium duo T5200 1.6 Ghz works on Aspire 4315 with noneed for replacing cooling system.
Both chipset are difficult to find, best place to find them is Ebay.

Re aspire 7104 being upgraded to duo core processor

No it cant be updated

Your acer aspire is based on the 910GML chipset

The Mobile Intel® 910GML Express chipset is optimized for the Intel® Celeron® M processor.

Here you can compare the 910gml chipset and 945 which is used by the core 2 duo.

http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=22210,7419&familyID=7&culture=en-US

As you can see on the page there are key difrences between the chipsets other runs on ddr2, yours on ddr. the FSB support is 400 on yours and 533 / 667 on the 945.

also you can see the supported processor familys right there.

you can look for a
Intel® Celeron® M processor,
Intel® Celeron® M processor Ultra Low Voltage (ULV)

Upgrade cpu with maximum FSB of 400MHz

There really is no difference, there are differences in the E numbers though. Those are specificallt about it's GHz's, it L1 and L2 cache.

Though Intel Core 2 Duo is the same as Intel Dual Core. It's just a different name. This confusion is caused because of Intel changing the names of it's processors series. The Pentium brandname for example is gone. Intel Pentium Dual Core is now called Intel Core 2 Duo.

I hope this answered your question.
