I have an HP laptop with vista and an HP Officejet 5510. I am now able to print from my software programs but not from the internet. I am unsure as to whether it is a compatibility issue or my wonderful Defender Pro antivirus program that is causing the problem. Any ideas in resolving this issue would be wonderful.

I cannot get my officejet5510 to work with my Belkin wireless print server and my new laptop with Vista Home Premium. It works well with the same print server driven by my old laptop with Windows XP. Belkin and HP support could not solve the problem

After buying a new computer with XP-SP3 installed I can't get the HP 5510 working. I checked this thread and found a reference to driver version 5.11.5, but found no such driver available from HP. Last published version is 5.3.0a from 10/2006.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I have a HP 5510 and it does not Scan or Fax with Vista. There's a workaround but I've forgotten it. Any tips?

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2009

I have the same problem and HP support said something like "forget it". It's not possible to use the pc/vista to send faxes.

I installed the full feature software for the Officejet L7780. When asked "how to connect", select wired/wireless. The software will be unable to find the device, select "i will connect later" and continue the installation. When you open the HP Solution Center you will see the 5510, most likely the only printer, and you can go through all of the settings. The L7780 DOES NOT show because it was not detected. This works GREAT. You will actually get more capabilities than with the original software. You can now scan to pdf, jpg, tif, etc.

Another reason to stick with windows xp. One real stretch is to install a virtualization tool (sun virtual box) and install win XP on it, install HP software, then pass thru the USB/printer connection to it. Then you could use the scanning features, make PDFs, etc... but this is a real pain.

If you upgrade your operating system like from windows xp to windows vista, you need to install new hardware driver for your computer like for LAN, webcam, WAN and others because the old driver is only compatible with the old operating system and not with VISTA operating system. Solution would are, download webcam and WAN driver for Windows Vista and install it into your computer. Don't just upgrade your computer because the configuration is not the same with the old operating system. If problem still exist, just upgrade the service pack from 2 to 3. There is available install for upgrading the service pack of each operating system. and surely all your hardwares will function.

My hp 5510 all-in-one won't scan photos

Unfortunately the 5510 is no longer supported by HP for OS X 10.5.x and up. On the Apple tech site, they actually redirect you to a page the HP upgrade page (read: buy a new one).

If anyone can think of any 3rd part software that works with this, please post!

The best thing to do is go to the manufacturers website and see if they made a driver for vista.

Actually I just went to the site and they don't offer a vista driver. New scanner for you buddy. that's Microsoft's way of continuing the monopoly. make everybody upgrade to their standards.
