it's the audio books that I can't hear, not video. wasn't sure that was understood. I have formatted the device twice, but maybe I need to do it again. and also download the firmware you mentioned.

It would help if you could confirm that.

So let me explain further. There is a three step process taking place here each requiring seperate drivers
1) Detection of the device as usb mass storage (usbstor.sys)
2) Provisioning of the device as a disk drive (disk.sys)
3) Managing the partition (part.sys)

In Device Manager,

When Step 1, suceeds the device is shown up under Universal Serial Bus controllers as a generic usb mass storage device,

When Step 2, succeeds the device is shown up under Disk Drives as Cowon D2 Usb Device, twice for the device as well as the SD Card.

I would like to know where in device manager do you see an exclamation or question mark.

Also if you do get a details tab in the properties of either the USB Mass Storage or Cowon D2 Device, check if you get values for queries like:

Hardware Ids
Compatible ids
Devnod flags
Bus Relations (for UMS Device)

and post them here

Do not post the Device Instance ID 'coz these contain the serial number of your device.

These might help to debug

Hi patty,

this means they have not been formatted properly.

try this video right here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naFl0D4Vzlw

if this did not work, try the 2.59 firmware release.

regards,

voodoo

After trying to update FW of my Cowon D2/4GB I've got just empty screen. When exploring I see 6 folders containing: MUSIC - empty; PICTURES - empty; RECORD - 4 empty subfolers; SYSTEM - 5 files:...

Hello there, what has happened to your unit is simply a situation of corrupt filing or an incomplete firmware update installation. When this situations arise it is considerably difficult to fix as the unit mostly does not initialize to start up the installation process to enable you re-install the fresh firmware. This problem is generic with the D2 as a lot of people have encountered the same problem. Best situation is return it back to the local dealer as this seems to be the best way out.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

The dictionary function of my cowon d2 is not working

2.55 is the American version..3.55 is the Korean version (there is English support for both). The 3.55 is superior because of theme/flash skin support as well as more features & better audio quality. It also has dictionary which is a feature that's missing in the america n version. Also theres a better startup logo. People don't realise because they just go on to the American Cowon, not the Korean one.

Follow the instructions here to install it after you have downloaded the file (above link is direct download)
