Slide the hold button on and then off. Press and hold the center of the click wheel and the menu button at the same time until it resets. It will take about 30 seconds to reboot and it should work. If it doesn't try returning it (if possible). 2nd generation nanos seem to have a problem where they freeze after a sync and need reset like this.

Test the songs that are not playing on the iPod in iTunes and see if the original file is still playable on iTunes if the song still plays re-sync your iPod could be when iTunes copied the song it must have failed or timed out, if that fails re-syncing try restoring you iPod Nano i have had this problem before and I just re-synced and it worked fine!
You should not plug the ipod to pc while it is playing because it is switches from the playing mode to sync and charging mode you can not play and use the ipod while it is connected with the software without ejecting it from itunes. Do a reset by pressing and holding the center and menu buttons at the same time until the screen goes back and apple logo pops up. This should reset your ipod and fix the problem.

Press and hold the center button while holding down the menu button. This will reboot your Ipod. Check your IPod cable to see if its shorted. If might have transferred a song and crash in the middle of the transfer.
try reseting it. then resyncing your ipod. to reset it, simply push the middle button down, and the menu button at the same time. a few seconds later and the ipod should reset. then sync the song that had the problem onto the ipod and see if it works. (no point in syncing all your songs becuase if reseting it doesnt work you wasted alot of time syncing songs for nothing)
