Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

My NEC MT1050 projector won't stay on. When I try to turn on the projector, it goes on for a few seconds then turns off. Then the red status light blinks. It seems to be in a sequence where it blinks 3 times, pauses for a second or two then repeats itself. I tried changing the bulb but that didn't work. Any ideas?

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a ray of hope: if there is a 110-220 v switch on back near power cord, make sure it is set right (110 in USA). Otherwise, the 3 cycle sequence indicates a bad power unit, requiring service. I would get a service shop to give you a quote and then decide whether to fix or repair (if it's out of warranty). You get a lot more bang for your buck, plus longer lamp life and brighter image with new models. And with the extra light, you can run the thing in eco mode, thus cooler and prolonging life of entire unit, not just lamp. And it will be quieter, lighter, etc.

I have a NEC mt1055 and the unit just had new bulb put in here and it has the power and standby light come on and the fan doesn't turn on here and the standby light is yellow and status is red

The NEC’s work on a reducing time basis, they count the hours that they have been operational and refer to this as the life of the bulb – 1600 hours. When the 1600 hours has been reached the projector shuts itself down into standby mode never to be restarted even after changing the bulb / filters. This is because the unit needs to be reset, which needs to be done as follows (not included in any of the bulb replacement instructions):-
  • Plug Projector in so it is in standby mode – Orange light lit, Red status light lit (not flashing)
  • Using the remote control, hold down the power off button for 30-45 seconds
  • This will reset the status button, removing the red light
  • Power up the projector and select Menu
  • Select Projector Options
  • Select Set-up – a number of tabs will appear called pages
  • Arrow across the pages (MT850 is Page 5) until an option called “RESET LAMP HOURS” is shown
  • Move onto this option and press enter on the projector itself, confirm that you want to reset the counter
  • Projector is now back to life

This works for all NEC projectors, the page number may be different though where the “RESET LAMP HOURS” option resides.

NEC MT1050 Lamp Error

Does the status light stay on red? If it does then the lamp timer has exspired and will not let the projector turn back on until it is reset, at which time you should replace the lamp. To reset the timer you need the remote control, with the unit plugged in in standby mode hold down the power off button for 30 to 45 seconds until the status light goes off.

It's on, then it's off

Is the fan running properly or are any vents blocked?
Sounds like it is overheating.

Why is my projector only staying on for 5 secs

Lamp is probably bad. You can remove it and while your doing that clean the filter to prolong the life of the new lamp. If you need assistance you can contact someone locally or i may be able to assist you if you want to ship it. Look in you owners manual for lamp # and start surfing for sites that may have it. If that is too much work, contact me and i will assist you. Thank you ... Cheers Jay
