With different timer, add a comment for possible help:

Open following links to identify timer and replacement parts, and see typical manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-trippers-and-parts.html#sprinkler
http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/timers/r8806p101c%20-%20english.ashx

Your timer is stuck ON.
Temporarily disconnect ground wire at pump to make sure short is not somehow completing 240Volt circuit.
Move toggle switch to Auto position, and then ON and then OFF > Toggle should be able to switch Load on-off. If toggle is problem, then order 133T1115A switch.
Note if the timer dial is rotating and keeping good time: if dial is not rotating, then replace WG733-14D clock motor.
If dial is rotating, the trippers might be worn down. Order 156T1950A trippers.
If dial is rotating, and trippers are good, then relay might be bad. Order 143T139A relay.

Add a comment and say what you discover.

Have a intermatic sprinkler timer that is has been reconnected to the pump. it works in the manual mode but the timer does not work looking for help on the wiring (video for dummies preferred)

No video.
If manual override works, look to see if dial rotates on time for full 24 hours. If dial keeps good time, then timer clock motor is wired correctly. If dial stops rotating after tripper passes, then wiring is wrong. If trippers are absent or worn down then timer will not turn Load on-and-off.

How to wire timer:
You posted under R8806P101C 240Volt timer without rain sensor connections.

If this is not your timer, then add a comment with model number that appears on door panel.
The wiring block has 4 screw terminals. From left to right: 1 2 3 4
240Volts cable has two hot leads from breaker box. Hot leads from breaker box connect to screw terminals 1 and 3.
Timer operates 240Volt pump load. Cable to pump load has 2 wires. Connect Load wires to terminals 2 and 4.

Sprinkler and irrigation timers are 14 day.

Intermatic has a page with manuals:
Open page, click plus next to timers and scroll down to sprinkler and irrigation timers
http://www.intermatic.com/customer%20service/instruction%20manuals.aspx
It's good to have the manual on hand in case the product is discontinued

That being said, it sounds like the clock motor is bad.
Snap timer free from box and tip out to see clock motor located on back of timer.
Get the number off clock motor

Intermatic site shows pages of clock motors: They are priced high, but cheaper than new timer.

Aplus supply sells assortment of Intermatic clock motors.
