Question about Troy Bilt 5.5hp Self Propelled Mower

Snapper hi vac. briggs and straton 6.0 hp motor

Yes i have just finished cleaning carb and reassembeling all parts runs great but i noticed that it uses a lot of gas. it runs realy well no miss or sputer like its fluding. but i have a small yard my old mower was a yardsman 5 hp mulcher and i could fill it half way with gas do my lawn and my nieghbors no problem at all and still have gas left. i didnt adjust any thing on the carb just made sure it was clean even puled the float bowl off and made sure it was all clean. well im just wondering if there is a way to adjust the carb or some way so it dont use alot of gas. i know on my mower its a comicial one so 6 speeds lol i use it on setting 2. just a good walk. any ways it has stop slow and fast. if i put it on fast all the way it runs a lil slower if i move it towards slow a lil the rpm's go higher like it shoudl sound. so i dont even know if it has a choke on it. if i set it to stop it shuts off no chocke as far as i can tell. i may be wrong its a new mower to me. if any one coulg give me good advice to set carb and where the settings are ill be very greatfull. only place i see to adjust is a rod going to the back of the motor that controls the buterfly open and closed. no settings for high idle or low. oh other thing is when i do set it to slow the rpms do not change??? just stays high. so basicaly the carb or somthing is out of whack. i know if u set mowers to slow the rpm's should slow down a bit but no change in rpm. thanx guys have a great day or night.... Tyson

Hey Tyson..my name is Keith..i cant help you with the fuel economy..but it sounds like your throttle cable outer casing has slipped ..so inspect it and and see if you can adjust it and tighten it down to where the throttle will work correctly..i hope this has helped

Why engine rpm surges

Dirty air inlet in carb. Remove carb and clean. Also run a fuel clean like sea foam in gas tank to help with any water or bad fuel that might be in the tank.

Surging problem on 10 HP Briggs & Stratton rear mounted engine on @86 Snapper mower

Dirty fuel in the tank, breather in the filler cap blocked, or partly blocked main jet in the carb, if there is a fuel solinoid on the base of the carb check its function by removing, when the ignition is turned on the plunger should retract into its housing,

I have a snapper 28 hi vac riding mower that won't

first try and start it with carb cleaner or starting fluid with the air filter out if it fires then its a carb/fuel problem if not it could be a spark problem remove the plug connect hte wire back up and crank the engine over while looking for spark if no spark disconnect the kill switch wires from the side of the engine should be a single wire near the throttle cable if spark with that off the problem is in the wiring or safety switch if still no spark its the coil

We have a 6.25 /Briggs & Straton we have cleaned

You should have two fuel lines going from the carb to the tank, one has a filter,

make sure both lines are good without any breaks or cracks. if the filter is dirty

you may need to replace it. you can fish it out of the gas tank by making a hook

on a wired coat hanger, try to remove the filter and put the line back in the tank

make sure they are both submerged, if it runs just replace the filter, good luck!

Briggs & Straton 20 HP, two cilinder engine idle speed

Surging is usually caused by a lean condition You can try to turn the mixture screw ccw about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. If this does not solve the problem your carb will have to be removed, cleaned thoroughly, and reinstalled.

I have a Yard Machine Lawn Motor with a 4.5hp Briggs and Straton engine. It starts really good but runs really rough. Can you give me some advice on how to fix this problem ?

Pull apart and clean the carb. You can dismantle and soak the carb in solvent or equivelant for a couple hours. A dirty carb and poor spark are the major reasons that the motor won't run well.

Spark plug gap on snapper comicial mower. briggs and straton 6.0

if you cleaned the carb thats great however if its a carb with a fuel bowl youll have to unscrew this and clean it to they have a habit of accumulating dirt and rust from moisture after cleaning bowl fuel should flow corectly without obstruction allowing smooth running operation also spark plugs are pre gapped for your mower model no need to adjust unless you bent it or are toing a custom projet such as go cart
