Question about NEC LT170 Multimedia Projector
When I turn on my projector (dlp) the picture does this thing thats hard to put in exact words. The image kind of flashes dark and bright, but not all over, just in places. Sometimes the cycling of the flashing is fast, other times slow, and the places flashing change. It seems to stop doing this after 30 minutes or so, but sometimes will start again later. The bulb life is 2000 hour rated with only 600 hours used. I have removed the color wheel and cleaned it and also the pickup, but this didnt help a bit, only the picture is a tad brighter and clearer now :) But is still does this wavy, flashy, flickery thing. Put it this way, remember watching old black and white movies, when the screen kind of goes in and out, like using bad film? Thats it!
Ive tried turning off any other lights on the circuit my ppojector is on, but no help. It just started doing this a few weeks ago. Before then it was perfect. HELP ME!!!!

projectors really don't like hot and humid. they love cool and dry. if the colorwheel is failing, the lamp wouldn't come on. humidity+dust+intense lamp heat=coated components. such as the colorwheel glass, which is clear and coloered. fried dust will cause dimness. you'd have to send it in to nec.

SOURCE: I just bought a used
Possible problem is the faulty lamp cooling fan. Check the lamp cooling fan of your projector. if the RPM of fan is low then the lamp can get over heated. May be its has some problem.Do one thing, Remove the fan from the projector. In the fan there will be a specification sticker. Remove the sicker. now u can see a hole in the center. its the bearing part of the fan. put one drop of oil in it. u can use any type of lubricating oil. rotate the fan leafs with finger for some time. after that re-stick the spec sticker. insert the fan in the projector.
i have added a video how to oil the fan for make it easy for you.
