Question about Intex Automatic Salt Water System for Above Ground Saltwater Pool

2 Answers

My saltwater pool tastes very salty, but my intex saltwater pump keeps saying low salt. I have to clean the cell everyday or it will not operate properly because the cell gets covered with white buildup each time it runs. Do I have to much salt in the pool that is causing this problem There is no place around here to get a salt tester. It is very salty tasting. The PH levels are fine I test it everyday

Your salt is way to high if you can taste it. You will need to dilute with fresh water until you get the salt back down and then clean the cell for continued use.

Sonds like to much salt In general you should use about 30 pounds of pure salt per 1000gl You must also make sure it was pool salt you do not want iodized salt.start by buying a salt water test kit on line as cheap as 12 bucks for 10 tests you want the water to be as close to 3000ppm as you can so not to have the whiote build up

What is the recommended end-of-season maintenance for the chlorinating pump?

According to the Intex website, the following maintenance is required for this product:

The Intex Saltwater Pool Systems are designed to operate with a minimum amount of maintenance. It is recommended to always turn the pump on prior to turning on the Saltwater Pool System (see Owner's Manual) unless the chlorine generator is part of a combination pool and filter set, to ensure that air pockets are eliminated from the hoses, and that water is flowing through the unit. In addition, the electrolytic cell should be examined and cleaned if necessary. The frequency of cleaning will depend on the local water conditions, pool usage conditions, and length of time the Saltwater Pool System is operated each day. (See Owner's Manual.)

The Intex Saltwater Pool Systems contain several features that minimize maintenance requirements:

1.) An automatic self-cleaning cycle: The Saltwater Pool System automatically undergoes a self-cleaning cycle to maximize the operating length of the electrolytic cell.

2.) Safety diagnostics: the Saltwater Pool System will alert the operator to three conditions that could result in poor operation: Low water flow through the unit, Low Salt level in the pool water, High salt level in the pool water. If any of these conditions exist, the system will sound a buzzer, and flash a digital code on the control panel (Model 8110) or a Red LED will light up. (Model 6110).If the condition is not addressed, the system will automatically shut itself off to prevent damage to the unit.

My water is cloudy and says salt level low.....it seems salty enough as I can feel and taste it. Is there chemicals I am supposed to be adding or does this system keep it clean all alone just by adding...

While your problems are likely greater than just the salt content in the water I can tell you that if you feel, or more importantly can taste the salt in the water your salt level is WAY TO HIGH, not low. Have the salt level confirmed with an independent test either at a pool store or using a salt tester.

KEEP GETTING A CODE 91 LOW SALT?

Hello,
As mentioned in many of my post's, you can not just go by the reccomended amount of salt in the owners manual.
You must get salt test strips that read in #'s not colors and get your salt as close to 3000ppm as possible lower than 2800 and you will not generate enough chlorine or trigger low salt alarms
any higher than 3500ppm and you could get cloudy, or trigger high salt alarm
the water will also taste too salty when adding salt dont forget to stir up the water and filter only for at least 12 hours before trying to generate salt

Longer if you ad a lot of salt like 75 lbs or so

Intex salt water witha 18x48 witha 2000/gph pump. my salt water system keeps saying low salt... my salt tested fine after adding more and ive cleaned the cell... it will stay on about 20 min then beeps low...

nothing is wrong that you cant fix
you must have your salt no lower than 2800ppm
and no higher than 3800
3000ppm is the best
make sure you run filter only for 24 hours once you have correct salt then start generating

one last thing test with strips that read #'s not the color strips

Low salt alarm on Intex system

so what does the test strip say. Should be as close to 3000ppm as possible anything close and under 2700ppm will trigger a low salt also you must run filter only for 24 hours to thouroughly mix the salt before trying to turn on the generator

We keep getting code 92 (high salt). There water

From the FAQ, What should I do if code 92 appears?

There are several things you may need to check and do:

- Test the salt level first with Test Kit, drain approximately 20% of the pool water and refill with fresh water.
- If code 92 still appears despite the above step, there might be a electrolytic cell failure. Please contact Intex Service Center, and replace the cell if needed.

High ph, algea, salty taste

You are going to need to buy chemicals anyway (acid for sure and probably algaecide) so find a good pool store tech and have them test your water and recommend the proper doses.

In summary though, you should not taste the salt in the pool and being able to means the salt content is to high. Chlorine generators will not work if the salt is to high and the fix is to drain water and dilute the remaining water until the salt content is no higher than max. No chlorine could explain the algae.

Generators also cause the pH to rise over time so you will need to keep acid on hand to counteract that.

Salty taste, high ph levels, algea and have shocked pool twice

I'm just now setting up my Saltwater generator...so don't have your problem - yet! Local pool guy tho said with the saltwater systems you need to add dry acid to the pool almost weekly to keep the ph down. Sounds like what you're experiencing. The dry acid was cheap and came in small-ish containers, should last long time.
