Question about Dometic Refrigerators

1 Answer

Dometic rm2804 door hinges are worn and plastic strip retainer is broken off. On the lower door the hinge pins fit into round metal guides. In turn, the metal guides are held in place on the door corners by decorative plastic strips which run the widt of the door at the top and bottom. On this door, both of these strips are cracked and broken in the corner of the hinge pin area. Also, the small round plastic bushings, flat on one end, which fit around the hinge pins are worn and broken.

I had this problem. I reversed the decorative plastic strips, both ends of the strip have hinge pin holes, so the doors can open left or right. I put the TOP decorative plastic strip on the bottom and BOTTOM on top.

How do i change the door so it opens from the right

Check the top and bottom of your fridge door at the furthest edge from the hinge. Do you see a plastic plug/insert, usually round that looks like they can be levered out with a thin blade? These cover holes that a hinge pin can be inserted into. At the hinge side (top and bottom in the same position as the aforementioned plug/insert) is where the hinge is attached to the door. If you remove the hinges from the fridge they should then come away from the door and you can swap them over to the other side and replace the plug/insert in the holes left where the hinge pins were originally fitted. The door should then be fitted to the other side of the fridge in holes similarly covered by a cap that you put in the holes left where the hinge was fixed.
I hope that makes sense, because I've just read it and confused myself I think.. ;)

Why is door still open at top after replacing door hinges on Whirlpool WFE510S0AW0

Well, I assume you have the door hinge clips in the right position,
and the door is seated properly with that 2mm slot that sits on the hinge receivers. If hinges are replaced, then it must be hinge receivers. If the door is crooked, moving the hinge receiver will align the door. Besides hinge receivers should be replaced first, before the hinges, that in my experience rarely break

I dont like the bent twisted story. I bet the little plastic U-roller in the hinge receiver is worn down or cracked. Fix is to replace the hinge receiver (a secondhand one is in plentiful supply) - or find a look alike roller and fit it. Cord pully's at the local hardware store may fit, window slider tracks, or even coins with a small 1 inch by 4mm bolt as an axle will do the trick.

Still not sure. Remove the dorr using instructions, and set aside.
Remove hinge receivers from each side. Are the little wheels in there good, or wobly, worn of missing?

Replacing hinge cam pin

I may need a picture to determine what is wrong. there is a screw-in pin that has a flat head top that you screw in. If that is in place, but the little cam itself (it's chrome with a black plastic center) is getting past the pin, then you have other problems. Either the 2 white plastic door closer cams on the bottom hinge are broken/worn/missing, or the lower hinge is sagging where it attaches to the cabinet of the unit and that needs to be replaced. These things can allow that cam to pass the 90 degree stop pin even when it is in place. you can look at a diagram of the hinge at http://www.greatplainsapplianceparts.com/order/subzeroparts.asp? (the question mark should be part of that link, but it won't take it so you may have to add it in the browser after you click the link). Let me know if this doesn't solve your issue!

Door lock keypad anchor

You have to order the part from a dealer. The issue might not be the sleeve though if you check the bushings at the hinges, they are probably worn. You can get door hinge bushings from an autoparts store. Then you drive out the hinge pins and bushings and put in new ones. What happens is over time, the bushings where and then the weight of the door causes the latch to strick the retaining anchor.

I have a Dometic rm2652 refrigerator the door hinge broke

the hinge is not plastic, only the insert sleeve that goes into the hole atop the door is plastic. If the actual hinge (metal arm) is broke, then you need to order a new part (not difficult if frig is 20 years or less). If you cannot find the part, go to a metal shop and show them the broken part, they usually can repair it or remake a new piece.
If the hole in the door went bad (that is: if the hole tore open and cannot hold the hinge pin) you need to have a metal repair brace added to the door. This will involve the metal shop or a good mechanic that can come to you and do the neccessary repair at the house; otherwise you need to bring the door to the metal shop. macgivor
