Wjsr4160 ge washer brake resistor open. Where is the resistor? I would rather change the resistor than spend $200 for a new motor. Where is the resistor? On the pc board? Which one?

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: motor board LED fllashing 6 times. any way to reset the code for sure ?

IN YOUR CASE YES BECAUSE TECHNOLOGY MAKES IT THIS WAY ANYMORE. YOUR MOTOR MAY BE A MOTOR TO YOU AND MOST PEOPLE BUT IT IS ACTUALLY AN ELECTRONIC COMPONENT AND IS ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLED. SORRY TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: GE washer. New belt,

Hello,

The error code E4 (4 flashes of teh light) means the the shifter coil is open..the shifter coil is part of the mode shaft..to repair that the mode shaft would need to be replaced...the mode shaft is in the center of the tub its what the agitator and the inner tub connect to and would require disassambly of just about the entire washer to replace it.

As far a s testing the lid switch with a ohm meter its just a matter of determining via the wiring diagram in the control panel and find the 2 wires on it and where the connect to (sorry dont remember off hand what two wires they are) to test it when the lid is closed on those 2 wires should have continuty with ZERO omhs resistiance and when the lid is open the that circuit should be opened

watch this video to reset the computer board,if it doesn't help you have to replace the motor, this is not that good of a washer, whirlpool duet is a good washer but that's my choice
9 flashes - The brake resistor failed. This code will limit the motor to 50 rpms. Try clearing the code and if the code comes back replace the motor.

GE washing machine brake should be replaced but was told that it would continue to work for 20 yrs. Is this true?

Unless the tub starts free spinning and dumping water on the floor your ok for a while. The brake is part of the transmission and is very expensive to replace.(over 200.00) Run it until it won't run any more and then replace the washer.

Machine wont spin out items are full of water

Take the belt off and run the washer to see if the motor will turn without a load.
Newer style GE - long history of transmission/brake issues with these. Best course of action is explained at this link:

GE topload washer occasional screeching noise during wash cycle

It sounds like it could be a brake pad that has broken and is partially rubbing against the brake frame.

Foul Smell from my GE Adora Washer..!

Having the same problem as everyone else , I make a habit of cleaning the filter once a month. I would like to advise people that if your load is heavy (such as scatter rugs) they will not spin out completely even when the filter is cleaned. No more GE for me!!

How to open front panel of washing machine?

I think you use a putty knife and slip it between the lid and the front panel and depress some clips that hold it on.  I'm looking for the same answer and that's all I've been able to piece together so far. The GE manual is worthless on this point.
