there is a defrost heater inside the freezer section, remove the back paanel from inside the freezer. lookin at the evaporator the u-shaped black heate wraps around under it, there are some peices of styrafoam( used for air flow) surrondin evap area, make sure none are hitting against heater assy

check the power cord itself, if you see on the back side of the cord a burnt or blackened spot then the cord is the issue

yes, but 900 is a little high for my area. is it loud in spin now? the seal can be replaced for about 50-80 part labor is 1 to 3 hours. if you just smelled the smoke and it is not loud you are ok for a long time, reduce load size and it will probly be ok for some time

Sounds like the transmission is jammed. This will cause the motor to bog and burn.

I've had the same problem TWICE. It seems the natural vibration of the machine loosens wire nuts and leads to the problem. Soldering the connection and then placing a yellow wire nut over the soldered connection works fine to stop the problem. This machine has a electric water heater to sterilize the dishes and draws a lot of power, near the limit of the connection, more than a standard dishwasher. I called Bosch twice about this problem, only the second time when I stated that my lawyer might call them back did they admit that there is an issue with the vibration of the machine leading to the wire nut becoming loose and suggested I solder the connection. Great dishwasher, lousy customer service. They have know about this problem for years.
