I hooked up a new Delta faucet and when I turned the water back on even though the handle is off, the water won't shut off. What do you think could be the problem?

I have water hammer on my new Peerless kitchen

Single lever faucets can turn off a water supply instantly. Try slowing down your handle motions when operating your faucet.
Water hammer can cause damage to your water supply system and attached equipment...namely...your water heater tank.
If your water piping is easily can use pieces of carpet cut into 4 inch squares to isolate the pipe from the wood joists, then use a J hook or wire hook to secure the pipe and isolation material (carpet). If you have copper tubing be sure to use plastic coated J hooks or wire hooks. Good luck and always know how/where to turn your water off before working on your plumbing.
ps if the hammering becomes a continuous fluttering hammer when you slow your handle need to tighten your crown adjustment nut located under your handle....most new faucets come with a tool that has an Allen wrench on one side to tighten the handle hold down screw...and the opposite side will have a fork like tool that is specifically used to adjust the crown adjustment nut. The nut is usually white plastic and has two notches in the top that fit the fork like tool. Turn clockwise slightly...then test...repeat until fluttering hammer is gone.

Delta handle won't turn more than half way

Take the handle off and adjust the hot temperature stop. Its just a plastic piece that needs to be adjusted up more. It just fits in grooves like a gear. Its easy to do.

The cold water on my Delta double hand faucet is leaking. I replaced the spring and rubber seat. when I put it back together, i can not turn the water off with the handle. I took the stem assembly out...

I believe they go in one way ,, but I've seen some that are 180 degrees out, which would make it so the water won't shut off, also with delta and moen,, add some plumbers grease to the o rings and faucet washers, so they don't stick when replacing,

We have a Delta 172 single handle faucet. We had our hot water heater replaced. Now it takes longer for hot water to get to the faucet. Could debris (calcium build up, etc.) from the replacement get in...

Yes, debris from water heater replacements often breaks lose and gets stuck. The problem could potentially be anywhere between water heater and the faucet. The faucets shut off valves or the Delta faucet cartridge itself. Turn the hot and cold water valves off under the sink and disconnect the water supply lines from the faucet. aim the water supply lines into a bucket and turn the valves on one at a time. If there is a significant reduction in the water pressure and volume on the hot water side, you need to replace the shut off valve. If there is no reduction in water pressure, you need to clean and/or replace the Delta faucet cartridge. Contact Delta to receive free replacement parts.

My Delta type kitchen sink handle is loose and keeps shutting water off. I have to turn it up a lot to keep it going. I could remove Red / Blue plug and do not know what to do beyond to tighten it?

Inside the handle of a Delta kitchen sink faucet is a small setscrew. You need an 1/8th inch allean wrench or Delta faucet tool to lossen the setscrew. Rotat the screw about 3 full turns counterclockwise, this should be emough to remove the hnalde. Under the Delta faucet handle is a white plastic ring with four notches. If you have a Delta faucet tool, you place it in two of the notches and slowly turn the ring clockwise to tighten the Delta ball assemby. This will keep the handle from moving by itself. If you do not have Delta faucet tool, use a pair of needle nose pliers in stead.

My Delta Model 174 sputters air when turned on and leaks from the base of the spout. What causes this?

Air is getting into your water line, though I can't imagine how since it's a closed system. The only time this might occur is if the water main was shut off and all the water was drained from the lines. This is only necessary if your doing some plumbing work.

We have a very old Delta & Single Handle Shower Faucet. The screw in the handle is now stripped since it was so rusted. How can we get the plastic knob off???

you can try drilling a small pilot hole and then use an "easy out" (get'em at any hardware store). or take some large pliers and break the plastic handle and remove the whole cartridge. Go get a new cartridge and handle. Make sure main water valve is shut-off prior do doing so though.

Faucet/sprayer coordination

If you have a Delta faucet your diverter may need to be replaced. The diveter is located under the spout (see diagram)(this is not your faucet but works the same)

Here are the instructions:

  1. Turn off water to faucet.
  2. Remove handle.
  3. Remove top cap.
  4. Turning spout back and forth gently lift and remove.
  5. Remove and replace diverter.
Hope this helps and please remember to rate this!
