Problem is i have a gravity fed system and yesterday connected a cold water line for an evaporative cooler to the cold water line coming of it. now there isnt any hot water

water will always find its own level and take the path of least resistance. if your hot water tank inlet is higher than the swamp cooler this may be your problem. you can try a line resrtiction at the cooler or a twelve volt rv pump with a battery and solar charger and an on off switch.know someone with this set up and it seems to work well.

The copper line and the pump. Which is the concern?
On the circuit breaker, Turn it off and in five minutes, back on.. Then check the outlet at the cooler to see if it's getting power. The copper water supply line? You do have water to the float control valve? or no?

Evaporative cooler pumps in dust

You should not have dust. Your water pump is probably shot. The hoghair might need to be replaced or the whloe unit might need a good hosing down. As far as a draft all the time? That is what you want in an evaporative cooler ain't it?

Do not know how to work/maintain swamp cooler

Make sure you have water to the unit, the water pump is on and the fan is working. No water=no cooling.

Shouldn't it be cooler?

Just found at least one problem with mine. I pulled off the back screen and then pulled off the back cover by undoing the two screws at the top. There is a pad in there that rotates through the water reservoir. If this pad doesn't get wet, you won't get any cooling. My pad was bone dry. Turns out the wire for the motor that rotates the pad was disconnected from the front control panel. I reconnected the wire and now the pad rotates through the water reservoir. We'll see how this works.
