Replace drum Hello, a year or so ago, I replaced the drum on my Canon NP7130 copier, which was a very simple process.  I just purchased a new drum, but cannot remember how to replace it. A little help, please? thanks in advance, Juli

You have asked a straightforward and simple question. However in order to truly help you I have to start at square ONE in order to make sure I have helped you. Usually the color drums are replaced at the same time. I trust that you have a unique situation. The part number is 0256B001AA. I spent a few minutes looking and it appears (as I expected) that you can't purchase it directly from Canon, so that's on YOU as there are plenty of 3rd party vendors. Please make sure you get the real thing, not a knockoff. You don't need tools to replace it. The drum has a chip in it that tells the copier it has a new drum so there is no service mode or special instructions. Merely lower the front door, locate the large blue handle you would use to gain access to the waste toner bottle and lower it in a counterclockwise fashion. Now locate the smaller blue handle above and turn it counterclockwise as well. THIS handle will expose all 4 drums and toner cartridges. The magenta drum is the second from the left, of course just below the magenta toner. Slide it STRAIGHT out with as lttle tilt as possible. The new drum will have all kinds of packaging .Pull all that **** off except the gray cradle that protects the drum. The cradle actually has locating points that will help you insert the new drum and align it properly. Actually if you took your time and looked closely you would "just know" how the new one goes in without the protective cradle. Just use common sense as you slide the drum in making sure you slide it in STRAIGHT. Pull the tape that you may not have already pulled as a final stroke. Slap the blue levers back into their locked position. Close the front door and the copier will say "hello" to the new drum and warm up. It will do an "auto gradation" to calibrate itself. Congrats. That code means the black drum unit has run as long as it can and MUST be replaced. There is no counter that can be reset that will help, as this code means that because of the age of the black drum, when the copier goes to verify that it can calibrate itself to meet the targets it knows it must meet...........for black it cannot. You have to replace the black drum cartridge. Fortunately this is an extremely simple process. By merely removing the old drum you will be able to install the new one. Just open the front cover,lower/release the large blue handle located at the center, then turn the handle in font of it to open the drum area. The black drum is located directly below the black tone assembly that you have always replaced. Just pull the black dum unit out. The new drum unit will have a protective cover on it's bottom. This cover serves 2 functions, to protect the drum and to help "locate" the proper loading point and angle. I bet you will have no problem putting in the new drum without the protective bottom cover , Just insert the drum the way the old one came out. Be mindful that it shuold be inserted straight, not angled in any way. The copier will "see " the new drum and take care of itself. I hope this helps "FIXYA". Have a Happy New Year!!!

When your drum was replaced did they put in a new drum assy or just replace the drum cylinder? I would purchase a new drum because these are one of the chepest to buy, around $ 80.00. They have a 6 month warranty and around 20,000 copies. I would replace the drum to see if that solves the problem. Before doing that, pull off the left side bypass assy. It is easily removed without tools. You should be able to see the drum and see if the drum is clean. If not, then replace the drum unit assy. Are you using only Canon toner, no other kind of brand will work. Generics should work but they are usually not as good a quality. The volume is very low and that should not be an issue. I believe its suppossed to handle 10,000 copies per month. Cleaning the glass top and below may help. The mirrors should also be cleaned as well. Good luck.

Hello calvin, the canon 2200 copier is a pretty rock solid machine and the primary fix for the "exact description" you gave is you need a new drum. For the Canon 2200 the expected life of the drum is (depending on both time sitting still {age} and actual usage) varies between 40,000 copies and 100,000 copies. The drum in your copier is both usage sensitive and time sensitive.The cool thing is that it is "comprehensive" as it has the lions share of the image formation process included in one unit AND it is very easy to replace as the instructions for replacement are included in the drum unit and are pretty bulletproof. Serious. The part # is 6648A004AA.I am sorry but I don't know how to direct to order this part as I work for a dealer and that stuff is not part of my normal business. But you COULD purchase it from us, but I bet you could do better.And I am just shooting from the hip but something less than $100 is about right. Hello luvmor. The code means the that when the copier tries to calibrate its colors (gradation) it cant get the yellow to calibrate.This almost certainly because the yellow drum has reached the end of its life.On this machine,it is not as simple to replace the drum unit as it could or should be.Newer machines are far easier to perform a drum replacement.I would have to recommend a trained technician to perform this procedure.

What is the problem with replacing the drum unit??? The developing unit has to be disingaged and the drum has a thumb srew & you pull the drum out & put the new one in and you are done... Good Luck

It could be a bad voltage board, which is not supplying enough power to the lamp.

hi im jules_09,you should not use compatible consumables for the copier sometime np7130 copier are nasty specially with opc drum,if the copy is blnk the problem is in the high voltage unit or in the transfer unit and drum charge unit you might have the wrong process replacing the drum.re install the drum then try it again .

Make sure that the black plastic arm just to the right of the gray drum release handle is in the proper position. This arm sometimes gets knocked out of position when engaging the tube of new toner. When the copier is clammed closed, this will sometimes come down on the right side of the post on the bottom front cover. This will move the developer far enough away from the drum to make blank copies. Hope this helps.
