Question about Pioneer PL-990 Turntable

1 Answer

My Pioneer PL-570 tone arm returns but will not shut off. It keeps playing like the repeat button is on. I asked this question before and you replyed that on page 8 of the service manuel it shows the switches etc. Could you send me a copy of page 8? I am also interested in locating the micro switch KSF-023. Thank you, Anthony

How do I access tone arm belt and motor on a Pioneer PL-L30 turntable?

Try lifting up the turntable mat. You should see a hole. Note how it fits before removing the belt.

How can I stop the tone arm from returning too early on smaller records?

The adjustment for auto return position is normally at the tone arm base on the left side under a rubber grommet. Use a flat blade screw driver to move adjustment screw, then test. Keep fine tuning until arm lifts at desired position. Cheers John. Stylus City NZ

Repairing tone arm of a pioneer PL 200!

i have the same problem with two vestax parts, which of one is round so sprayglue and three turns around it with thin koper cable.and after that sandpapered itagain and another layer glue, but i had no choice... the part ain't available en a couple of days ago my backside of a pdx 2000 spantanious broke of, but carbon wil hopefully fix it. You need to know of which plastic it's made and get the right glue, but you nee some glassfibre orso also on the inside , or it will brake

The arm will automatically return without playing the record

Hi Lisa, its a bit of a long shot however try this. With the turntable powered of manually rotate the platter approx 12 times to reset the auto operation back to default. John styluscity.com

Tone arm keeps returning to rest on Crosley CR249

Hi, Try this. with it turned off. Lift tone arm across a record to the run out groove and set it down. Now power up and hopefully it will reset itself. In all honesty I would sell it and get a decent old school player. John. Styluscity.com

Turntable tonearm returns but starts playing record over again.

http://www.vinylengine.com/library/pioneer/pl-570.shtml
on page 8 of the above service manual for your model it shows 4 electrical switches that tell the computer what 'state' the mechanism is in at any given time. Either one or more of the switches are intermittant or the mechanism has dried up grease that is slowing down the operation and basically gumming up the works. the old grease would have to be removed and replaced when it is causing binding. The switch just to the right of where is says "microswitch ksf-023" is an 'open air' type and so would be the most likely suspect. it simply needs to be cleaned with a super fine file designed only for cleaning switch contacts. THIS SERVICE SHOULD ONLY BE PERFORMED BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL ONLY!!!!!

Pioneer PL-670 record rejects continually

Are the record size tabs sticking up through the turntable platter cover? They sense the size of the record being played and adjust the run out distance for either 45 or 33 rpm records.

Pioneer PL-570 turntable (c.1973)

Yes first check is that the Gnd wire from your turntable is connected to the Gnd (ground) post at the back of your amplifier with a good clean tight connection.
If the problem persists, check ALL your hi-fi components mains plugs for earth connections including your turntable, then remove the earth connections on all but one component so that you are left with only item earthed.
What does sometimes cause problems is if 2 or more hi-fi separates are earthed and connected to each other the earth cables along with the hi-fi interconnects form an inductive loop that picks up interferance such as mains hum etc.

I've got a Pioneer PL-300 turntable bought around the mid-80's. It hasn't been used much in years, especially due to a problem with the tone arm lifting up before the end of a record (45 rpm) has finished...

Hi Mikey. I shure hope you have solved your problem by now, but for everyone else, I woud like to shead some light on this matter. What you need to do is to adjust the auto-return lever that is located between the center of the platter and the tonearm, underneath the plastic cover. To do so, you first need to remove the platter so that can reach the adjustment-screw.
This is how the lever looks like in my PL-300X and it should look the same for you. I've marked the adjustment-screw that can be reached through a hole under the platter.

and this is what it looks like with the cover on:

Hope this can solve your or anyone elses problem.  Ciao / Albin
