Can't open download files

Either:

1) the original files are corrupt
2) the original files are encrypted
3) the downloaded files are corrupt
4) the downloaded files require being unzipped and you have no "unzipper" installed such as 7 Zip.
5) the downloaded files, if already unzipped, have no program assigned to read their specific format

Just what operating system were the files originally created upon and what software was used to create them? IF you don't know, try the followsing:

Determine their file type (their extension, such as .pdf, .doc, .jpg, etc.. Google "how to open "fill in" files (the file type). Try installing a program that reads that extension. If you already have one, try opening the file with a double click and when it asks for which program to use to open it, then pick the one already installed that your research says will open it.

It seems unlikely all the files would be corrupt. It is more likely that you do not presently have a program that can open that file type. You may have to convert the file type into another type of file for which you have software that can open it. Generally, there is freeware available that can open most file types.

How to open rim files

Hi Raymond
Usually the best way to open a file created by a specific program is to install the program that created it.
So for example you would not be able to open a DNG file unless you had a program like Photoshop or Lightroom installed.
Here are some more possible reasons for not being able to open a file
  • The correct program is not installed.
  • The associated program to open the file is out-dated.
  • The registry entry of the file association is corrupted.
  • The file extension has not been associated with the correct program.
  • The file is corrupted by malware
  • Usually installing or re-installing the program that created or plays the file will fix these problems (after you have scanned your computer and eliminated any malware) be very wary of any tool on the web that offers a quick fix for this problem, and always scan anything you download with a virus checker/internet security suite.

    Why wont my downloads open?

You must know what type of files you are downloading. Applications are programs. They can be in the form of self-extracting self-installing archives. To open other files, you must have on the computer programs that handle them.
If the type of file is recognized by your OS, clicking the right mouse button will give you various options to choose from.
If you could be a little more specific about what kind of "applications" you downloaded, we might be able to help you better.

How do i associate files in windows 8.1? like .rif, etc

Opening RIF files Did your computer fail to open a RIF file? We explain what RIF files are and recommend software that we know can open or convert your RIF files.
What is a RIF file? The .rif file extension is most commonly used for Painter raster image files. These files are created by the Corel Painter image editing application. The RIF files contain raster graphics, floating objects and other image properties. The RIF file format allows a user to keep the actual image painting separate from the canvas of the image so the canvas can be edited at a later time.

The .rif file extension is also used for Resource Interchange File Format bitmap image files, Rockwell ADPCM format files, FutuRUG encrypted resident information files and MicroTik RouterOS dump files.

I'm running windows 7 on a Toshiba L455 and I keep getting a prompt that says; can not find "flash.ocx"

Flash is a programming language that many publishers use to create animations, games, and interactive programs for the web. Flash is also used for programs run locally on a users computer. To use these Flash based programs and web applets, the end-user must have Flash Player installed. One component of Flash Player is a file called "flash.ocx." If this file is missing or damaged, you may get an error message.

There seems to be two root causes of this error. A description and solution for each follows:

    • You receive the error message "Cannot find the file flash.ocx" every time you start your computer or each time you open your web browser (such as Internet Explorer). This is usually the result of a missing "flash.ocx" file caused by an incomplete installation of Flash. Here's how to remedy the problem:
      1. Download the Flash Player uninstallrom Macromedia. Save it somewhere convenient.
      2. Run the downloaded program and allow it to finish.
      3. Once the uninstall completes, restart your computer.
      4. Visit the Flash Player website and download/install the latest Flash Player version.
      5. That's it!
    • You receive the error message "Cannot find the file flash.ocx" at seemingly random intervals or when starting a specific program (other than your web browser). First, perform steps 1-4 of the previous solution. This will insure you have the latest version of Flash Player installed. If you still receive the error message, continue with the steps below:
      1. Navigate to the folder "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\". In this folder you will see a file named "Flash9f.ocx".
      2. Make copy of the "Flash9f.ocx" file in the same folder as the original (copy the original, then paste the copied file into the same folder).
      3. Rename the newly made copy to "Flash.ocx".
      4. If the previous steps don't eradicate the error messages, change your screen saver to one of the defaults that are included with Windows (such as "3D Text").
if the problem still persist please let me know.

You will need to know what program the file was created in. For example...If I were to send you a file with doc at the end of it you would need Microsoft word installed on YOUR computer to be able to open the file.
