Hi Becky, I know this may sound like a stupid Q but I gotta ask anyway. Is it on auto focus? Or maybe you tripped the select lever(very easy to do, due to the lever being right in the area) down to M.
The other reason is you may have too fine of a background interfereing with the area of focus where the lens just simply 'hunts" back and forth. If not try using manual and see if it focuses. If it does then there is probably a simpl reason why you're having this problem.

Auto focus

Have you checked the lens to see if auto focus is turned on? Sometimes the switch can get accidentally turned to the manual focus position.

When I try to take a pic, the camera beeps and a red light flashes.

Hi. Based on your brief description of the problem I would think that the camera is failing to focus and the flashing red light in the viewfinder is the auto-focus indicator, make sure that the red auto-focus indicator is positioned in the centre of the viewfinder initially until you have experience of using it (to do this consult your camera manual) focus on a subject that has some contrast ie a red brick wall, grass or pebbles on a beach.

Won't auto focus

Make sure the auto-manual focus switch on your camera is set to auto (A) and also make sure the auto manual focus selector on the lens is in auto (A) as well. If your lens contacts are dirty then this will affect the function of the lens as well. Clean those with either a lint free type cloth and alcohol or methylated spirits.

When i turn on my camera to take a pic it is blurry but if i zoom the lens all the way close to the object it takes a good pic.

Your auto-focus is not working. Inside the camera is a motor that adjusts the lens to focus on an object automatically. It is currently stuck to "close" or near focus. However, it doesn't go far focus. Check the focus functions of you camera - try to use manual focus.

Auto focus not working

The lens AF mode is not working. What lens is it you are using?

It is not a camera issue but a lens issue. Try a different lens to be certain.

Canon 3000N Auto focus fault

No extra batteries.

Usually this is a lens fault as the focusing gear is all in the lens. Clicking sounds as if a rear pinion has cracked. It's not uncomon in the 'prosumer' level lenses where plastic gears are used a lot.

It's just possible the fault is which the auto-manual switch. This usually has a mechanical clutch coupled to it which physically disconnects the gearbox from the focusing ring, as well as operating a switch to tell the camera to turn off the AF system.
