Backlight failure HP DV1010

A few days ago the computer told me that there was a fatal error with the video card, and then when i reset it the computer worked just fine... so i uploaded the latest drivers for the card, per the computer's recommendation. now the backlight doesn't work at all; the screen is still there, but no backlight, so it is next to impossible to see what is going on on the screen. i can tell it's still there, and i can still do things, just you can't see the screen.

If it is the inverter, it is an easy and inexpensive fix. One of my DV1010US screens did the same thing and I was able to fix it in less than 20 minutes after the part arrived. No mercury hazard since you only remove the front plastic frame of the LCD.

- Download the service manual for the DV1000 for free on the Web.
- Purchase a *new* inverter board off the internet.
- Follow the few steps needed to disassemble to get at the old inverter. (You do NOT need to take the whole LCD apart... merely the front frame assembly.)
- Unplug and unscrew the old inverter then plug in and screw down the new one.
- Reassemble the DV1000.
- Power up and see if it did the trick!

For the low price of a new inverter and a little patience, you can probably fix it. This reply was typed with the DV1010 on which I replaced the inverter.

You need a new screen or inverter, depending on the problem. You can't replace the backlight itself because it is build into the LCD panel. Using a mercury reaction, it makes light. Because of the mercury, it is also dangerous to replace.

Dell backlight indicators

A computer monitor has a front-mounted LED that displays its current status and flashes in the event of an error. When an error occurs, the flashing may be accompanied by an error message on the screen. If the screen does not display an error message, the problem most likely falls into one of four common categories.

Unsupported Display Mode A video card has the ability to send output to the monitor at many display resolutions and refresh rates. However, no single monitor is capable of supporting every possible display mode. When the video card sends an unsupported display mode to the monitor, the monitor shuts off to prevent damage and blinks, or displays an error message. Standby Mode b> When a monitor detects no video signal from the computer, it assumes that you have turned the computer off and enters standby mode to reduce power consumption. Dell and HP monitors display an amber light when in standby mode. The status light on an Apple monitor blinks slowly. Incorrect Power Supply Some monitors such as certain Apple Cinema and Studio displays use external power adapters. Because different power adapters may have similar connectors, these monitors are designed to detect when an incorrect power supply is connected and blink the status LED rather than attempting to turn on. In the case of an Apple display, the LED blinks in an alternating short and long pattern. b> Backlight Failure b> A flat panel LCD display has an LED or fluorescent backlight that illuminates the pixels and makes it possible to see the contents of the screen. If the backlight fails and requires replacement, the monitor is unable to display any information. In some cases, you may be able to resolve this issue by turning the monitor and computer off, disconnecting and reseating all cables. If the monitor still has a backlight issue, it requires professional service.

Can't download iTunes, IE 8, HP Printer...Fatal Error MSI Scan is the usual statement, although I've gotten numbered failures too. But Fatal Error is the main one.

Hey

The SCAN.MSI that comes up about your HP printer, that is located on the CD in a special folder.

It would be best for you to completely uninstall all HP programs from the computer related to the printer.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
unplug the printer first
use the free(ware) version. Download the program, start it, go to the uninstall programs part, find the HP related items and uninstall, Use medium setting and delete all files and items it finds, just click on select all and then delete.

When that is done restart the computer, then use the CD or I'll direct you to the full feature download to reinstall it.

I've delt with this scan.msi issue quite a few times here and I know how to solve it. If this doesn't work for whatever reason you would have to go to the cd (right click, open) and find the scan.msi file, when the error comes up asking for the scan file, direct it there (Exactly to the file in the cd, it may be hidden inside a few folders) and it should solve that one.

I have a Lenovo A61 Thinkcentre that is about one year old. I am now hearing a fairly loud noise that comes and goes. When the system starts, the noise appears and lasts 10 - 20 minutes, then disappears....

Ok it still sounds like an fan. look for fans, one in power supply, one on cpu, one in case(frount or back), one on video card. before you start from cold unplug the fans that you can. and stop the one in power supply. then if there is no nosie you have to start pluging them back in till you hear the noise. **NOTE!!** don't run it long without fans!!( 40 secs) is long enough..

I have a HP Pavillion Slimline S3500t; a few days ago the computer turned ff completely. Every time I have tried to reset it, or start it, the monitor give me an error message ''monitor going to sleep''...

When you boot the system, do you get any life at all in the monitor? Splash screen, perhaps?

You could try to boot it to safemode (tapping the F8 key on boot) to see if you get any image. Other than that, it looks as though your video bit the dirt. A replacement video card may be in order.

Hope this helps - do let us know how you make out.

Cheers,

Loud fan noise

hmm, it's very possible that the new fan is unable to spin fast enough to draw enough heat away fast enough. I'm guessing that this a separate video card and not the onboard video of the motherboard? and, is it the video card fan that is making all the noise?
