What does flashing globe on white screen on mac meanmacbook pro

If by flashing globe you mean spinning globe (often a colored beach ball), there are several possible reasons. The spinning beach ball happens when a operating system command cannot be completed. The computer is frozen/stuck in a process that it can't complete.
Most often the cause is faulty or missing information on the hard drive. Running Disk Utility will often fix it. You may need to start the computer from your OS install disk and rather than install find Disk Utility in the pull down menu and run it on your hard drive.
The spinning ball could also be caused by insufficient RAM memory to even run the operating system. It could also be caused by hardware problems which can be diagnosed with the Apple Hardware Test found on the disks sold with the machine.
If you truly mean a flashing round globe, I have never seen such a figure. Flashing question marks or flashing circle with a slash through it means the mac cannot find a bootable hard drive. Your hard drive may have died or become corrupted. To see if you hard drive is defective, again run Disk Utility by booting off an install CD or another hard drive with a compatible MacOSX operating system to diagnose.
Try running the repair disk program under the general tab of the Disk Utility program.

My hp 4520 probook is not picking up the cd/dvd drive, no type of cd is visible in "Computer" folder or accessible. It does not automatically pick up the cd/dvd and ask usual functions like "open with"...

no OS stated, no CD stated, but asks...
there are vast types of CD disks, not one stated by you
what is ? whats on it , what does the label say is it home made CD
non of that can we know, and is KEY to the best answer.
for autorun to work 4 things must be good.
1: the CD drive shows up in device manager, and be OK.
2: the CD must be good. what is it, not stated by you. yet.
3: the autorun feature turn on via the My computer explorer.
4: the CD must have an autorun file, many dont.

so lets forget AUTORUN, (must walk first then run, LOL)
first as always it the DRIVE must be pulled in and not bad.
2nd the Device manager must show it as must next it shows, up
in Diskmanagment and last must show up in My Computer.
or in W10 that is now called. THIS PC.
Microshaft changed this name for local explorer 4 times. for kinks.
and sux that, having to tell that.

sure seen this 1000s of times.
and all ways from sunday , you name it ive fix it,
even bad media or media from China it this pure trash.

lets say the Device manager, shows the drive.
what to do next? well that is easy
go to walfart and buy a music disk
this is called a CD-DA disk.
this disk works on all optical drives made.
if you see it in MY computer and click it , it will play.
music. as designed to do .

one other thing to do us load the Probook drivers from HP
on the PC, matching what drive you have,
mine is a DVD drive, upgraded. and can burn DVD-R.
if you have windows install disk put that in,
now.
you can see files now for the first time if the CD is a DVD
and the drive is a DVD drive, you see fails.
if the MS orHP disk is DVD and the LT only has CD drive
its hopeless.
if you have modern drive you can read most files.
even MP3., WAV music
and watch movies on DVD.
if you upgrade to BRD, blue ray drive you can run BR movies.

Older cd/dvd drives many not be able to see or run
any burned drives, the first ones could not do that.
like DVD-r or DVD+r home burned disks.

again see if a real store bought music disk works (CD-DA)
if that works good move up to more complex disks and test.
if not the DVD drive is dead, or the drivers do not match your drive.
to match any drive.
remove it and read the number on it.
it has a tag.

so you said all type but do tell if it is a store bought CD first.
for music, not a burned disk by you or others.
a disc from a store, real, music and not scratched up.

got this one? there are many types offered and used,

Insert a disk. Wait for the disk-spinning to stop.
Open "My Computer".
Double-click the icon for the CD/DVD drive, to see if Windows can read anything from the disk.

Failure to boot. media test failure, operating system not found. how can I rectify this problem

Your computer tries to read from several devices, to try to load a copy of Windows:
* CD/DVD drive
* your disk-drive
* via your network-adapter, to communicate with a "boot-server" on the network
* 3.5-inch diskette

Your computer has tried each of the above devices, and found that NONE of them, including your disk-drive, contain an Operating System.

Either:
* your disk-drive is getting no power from your computer
* the "data" cable for the disk-drive is not connected to both the disk-drive and the motherboard
* the disk-drive is not spinning (dead motor)
* the electronics on the circuit-board under the "spinning" part of the disk-drive have failed.

Check the power/data cables. You may need to replace the disk-drive, and reinstall Windows.

It doesn't work. Control panel sees the drive and driver is up to date. Drive spins, but computer can't read disk, My Computer cannot see the drive.

well i would need to know your operating system first and the exact model i will definitely be able to solve your problem for you.....what is probably wrong is my computers not picking it up because the driver has become corrupt even though you can see it in device manager it still can be corrupt the best thing i can advise just now is a system restore to the closest date that it was working that should work but i am only advising this because i need more info... i hope this helped and i hope to hear from you

How do I open a cd to transfer it to my pc? I have my resume on a cd that someone made for me using his laptop, When I go to My Computer, there isnt anything that shows that it is recognizing the cd drive,...

Put a store purchased CD or dvd in the drive and see if it is seen by computer.
If so, remove it and place your cd in the drive.
If you get a message, format not recog., find out what format or was used to copy cd.
If you are useing VISTA and wish to view a doc. made on a win98 machine, you will have problems.

If the cd/dvd drive is not seen under mycomputer, you may have a damaged drive or may need to reconfigure it to be seen by your computer.
Check your jumper settings on the drive.
But first try a new disk and see what comes up.

CD/DVD drive stopped working gradually

  1. Ensure the Drive is seen in MY Computer
  2. Try removing the upper and lower filters per this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
If the drive is seen in BIOS and in MY COMPUTER, but will not read any media after running the microsoft fix and rebooting, then replace the drive.

seems your MBR is damage. but you can repair it if only you can boot in windows cd and entering in the recovery console.

To run the Recovery Console from the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD-ROM, follow these steps:
1.    Insert the Windows XP startup disk into the floppy disk drive, or insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer.

Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2.    When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3.    If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4.    When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5.    At the command prompt, type this commands one at a time.

FIXMBR  C:
FIXBOOT  C:
COPY [CDDRIVE]:\I386\NTLDR  C:\
COPY [CDDRIVE]:\I386\NTDETECT.COM  C:\
BOOTCFG  /rebuild

6.    To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

no warranty...you use on your own risk :)
