SOURCE: honda 1986 vf400f nc13 engine front two cylingers not firing help

If the spark appears to be weak only for the two front cylinders, then I would suggest checking the electrical connections for the ignition coils.
If the spark for the other two cylinders looks the same (yellow), then I'd suggest checking the compression on the non-functioning cylinders. A compression reading of 140~160PSI is what you're looking for. Low compression indicates internal engine damage - or could be from something relatively simple - like insufficient valve tappet clearance.

If the bike has been sitting for a long period of time, it could be that the carburetors are plugged up with fuel varnish. This can cause some cylinders to not run. A complete carb disassembly and clean-out will be needed.

Testimonial: "thanks for that feed back . there is plenty of fuel and compression is non existant on front left and 80 psi on front right,I suspect cam wear????"

SOURCE: firing order

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

For and MC22, seated on the bike, the left hand ignition coil fires cylinders 1 & 4 while right hand ignition coil powers 2 & 3 cylinders.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

first try cleaning the carbs, new spark plugs and adjust valve clearances, new oil and clean air filter, before any screw adjustments, which will need some vacumn gauges attached to set the carb sync

I need a gasket kit A for my 1984 Honda cb700sc nighthawk s but the one for my bike is super expensive. Any ideas what other models might work or a cheap place to find them?

I assume you went to Honda and they want your left kidney for the gasket set! Here,s the thing many of the after market gasket sets are good and most are close to the original BUT if you are going to keep this bike my advice is to pay the money and get the real thing.I learned this lesson the hard way when I bought an aftermarket set and 25% of the stamped holes where in the wrong place.Bought a Honda set in the end.Good luck and good riding.
