Question about Curtis DVD8009 Player

Curtis DVD-8009 picture freezes

My son's 3 month old DVD player suddenly began freezing shortly into his DVD movies. It doesn't make any difference if it is an older DVD or a brand new one right out of the package, it starts out perfectly, advances just so far into the movie, and the screen freezes until eventually the "Curtis" screen saver is displayed with a small rectangle icon (that is not even mentioned in the instruction manual) on the upper right hand side of the screen. None of the buttons on the unit seem to respond although when pressed, you can hear the disc start spinning again. This problem began suddenly after working perfectly since he got it. The problem also seemed to occur about the same time the battery stopped holding it's charge (playing unplugged for approximately 5 minutes before shutting off-up until then, it played for close to 2 hours. It was not dropped or exposed to extreme hot or cold. Please advise!

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Try cleaning the DVD lens with a cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol. The DVD lens is what emits the laser from the unit. Let it dry and try again. Also try using a different DVD. Let us know if it worked and don't forget to rate me :)

My Curtis DVD player stopped responding at all.

If the unit is less than one year old take it back to the place of purchase for repair or exchange, this is clearly a manufacture defect.

I have a Sony DVD player hooked up to my TV. The player is approximately 5 yrs old. It seems that when its on for 15-20 minutes, the movie in it freezes. Even if the movie is brand new, the message on...

Well I wont be as quick to buy a new player yet!!

Firstly i would clean the lens and try running it the the cover off.. That should give you some time. But yes eventually you will need a player. Also the movie that freeze in the same place every time, try that on a neighbours or friends player to be certin it works :)..

I always try to avoid spending unnecessary cash or delaying it for as much as i possibly can. Hopefully taking the cover off will allow it to cool better giving you a few months to get things in order.

Player suddenly freezes

Try running a dvd cleaner through it first, before trying anything else (the type that looks like a DVD with a brush underneath).

The regular DVD might have been a fluke (scratches, rental?, burned dvd?)

Was there anything special about the new Blu-Ray Disc - what was the tile? On certain titles, you may need the firmware upgrade found at:

ILO DVDR05 recorded DVD's freeze

Burn your DVDs at tow positions slower than what the system and discs say. It sounds as if there is a huge amount of error being introduced during the write process. Unfortunately, the old discs can only be recovered with an external program like Zero Assumption Recovery or the like....accordianman

DVD Freezes during playback

it might be that you are playing a dual layer dvd in the player. The player needs to focus on the second layer of the movie, and that might be why the dvd freezes. Leave it there for a while and the dvd should continue if it is this situation.

Picture sticks, breaks up repeatedly

Change the location of the unit, this sounds like an overheating problem. It is too close to other units or is enclosed in a tight space. You may also try putting a small fan behind it to cool it down.
