Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

My internet service is working sporadically when it is connected to the D-Link router. Right now I have my computer directly connected to the cable modem and it works fine. When the computer is connected to the router and then the cable box, it works sporadically. I power everything down, bring it back up and it works for about 5 minutes max if at all. Do I need to buy a new router? My model# is - DGL-4100.

You need to update the firmware of your router. Download the latest firmware from Dlink website. You need to hard reset the router, load the firmware, then do another hard reset after you successfully updated the firmware.

This may just be address problems.
Try this:
Turn off the modem, router, computer and anything else in the LAN (ethernet cabled stuff). Attach the cable from the modem to the router, but don't turn the modem on yet.
Next... turn ON the router First... allow it to boot up completely..then turn on the modem and allow the modem to boot completely. This will allow the modem to detect the address of the router First... then go ahead and plug and turn on everthing else...
If your router is the main address, then all the other equipment should boot and stay connected...
Let me know if this solves your issue.

Connect the router's WAN port to your cable-modem.
Connect the computer to one of the LAN ports.
No other "setup" is needed.

I hooked up everything right modem to router, router to computer. but i still cant get internet to my computer. if i hook my modem directly to the compiter it works fine but not through the router

Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) limit you to *ONE* unique computer connected through the cable-modem (or DSL-modem).
Turn the cable-modem off.
Turn the router off.
Connect the cable-modem to the router, via an Ethernet cable to the 'WAN' port on the router.
Turn the cable-modem on.
Turn the router on.
Connect, via an Ethernet cable, from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to your computer.
Restart your computer.
You should be OK.
If not, telephone your ISP, and get them to trouble-shoot from "their" end towards your end.

Internet connection sporadically interrupted. "Router problems". Green lights on router flash in unison. Problem seems to be worsening. Do I need a new router?

DLink wireless router will not connect to internet we have a new modem, tried connecting through a cable, and wireless, tried new cables, rebooting, resetting and all standard procedures. Is there...

It's the modem, not the wireless router that is the problem.
The modem must have the proper account name & password for it to work.

Test:
Connect a computer directly into the modem (without router). The modem has an Ethernet connector. If you can't get Internet by connecting a computer directly to the modem, then you will never get the router to work.
Contact your ISP. They may not give you the account name / password, but instead do a service call to your location.

Can't seem to hook up D-link router to my Arris cable properly

hello!

-- who is your internet service provider
-- what is the operating system of your computer?
-- is this working fine before or is this a brand new router

you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings
Step 7: test the Internet connection.

if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router

note:

configuring the router settings will depends who is your provider. if your isp is dsl you need to configure your ISP username and password on the router. if your router is a cable no need to change any settings on the router. it should automatically work

D-link dir 615 ; can't get other desktop to read wireless network

Please understand as I get very basic to start but things very obvious to you I cannot see.

Generally when including a router in a home network starting from the cable (tv) or the phone socket (dsl) in the wall with a phone wire plugged in. The next box is generally provided by your internet service provider and is a modem/something that connects to the phone line or cable. Then sometimes when only one computer exists computers are directly connected to the modem with an ethernet cable (looks like a fat phone wire with oversize connectors) or a USB cable (small flat retangular ends).

When you want to add a router for multiple computers. The computer gets disconnected. If a USB cable was used it is often replaced with an ethernet cable and that cable connects to the WAN port (probably separate from a block of 4 lan ports) of the router you bought (tell me if you have two routers -- that is a different problem). If your service comes from a cable (tv) company your router may already be properly configured. If however you have DSL service from the phone company the chances your router is correctly configured are less. To finish with the cabling story -- your computer then hooks to one of probably 4 LAN ports all in a block. Now if you are lucky power on all devices and boot up your computer and see if you have internet access. If you do great if not please provide me the name of your internet service provider or a link to their help/support website and I will see what I can do to assist in completing the router setup. Until your wired computer gets access to the internet your girls wireless connections will not work either. Once we get the wired connection working we will address the wireless connections.
If necessary unplug the router and plug the computer back into the original cable until we get the router working.
