Next unplug machine while the carriage is in the center, way over on the right is a wiping assembly that wipes the bottom of the printhead. Wipe any excess ink off these wipers with a q-tip or paper towel. Should help...

SOURCE: I installed new ink tanks

Are you sure you haven't confused the new and old cartridges? also make sure that any stickers that protect the contacts on the cartridge have been taken off.

A non-supported ink tank is installed (the ink tank LED is turned off). Install the supported ink tanks, check that the chips on the cartridges are clean.

Yes its simple to replace the print head follow the steps mention below :
1.Open the top cover of the Canon printer. The print carriage will then move to the center position.
2.Press the tab on each ink cartridge, then lift the cartridges out.
3.Raise the lock lever, then lift the old print head out of its cradle.
4.Remove the new print head from its packing material, then place it into the cradle in the same orientation as the old one had been.
5.Lower the lock lever until it snaps into place, then reinsert the ink cartridges.
6.Perform the Printer Head Alignment adjustment in the printer's maintenance utility.

Well your Canon has great reviews and it's a shame your is giving you problems!

As soon as possible check the electrical junctions where the Ink CARTRIDGES mate to the PRINTER.

Your printer has half of those connections and your Cartridges have the mating half...

NOTE: Many ink cartridges DO NOT like to be unmounted until they are totally empty... but personally, I would take that chance!

Use rubber gloves and a Q-Tip with a dab of alcohol. Now CLEAN ALL of the pins/connectors so they look like NEW... But don't buff too hard because you don't want to wear the thin gold plating off!

Go ahead and test your printer again!...

If not that ~ take it to a reputable repair center ~ Like GOOD GUYS... and their GEEK SQUAD... but NOT Frys. The "Squad" has very talented field techs... and even BETTER techs in their repair labs too (on the 'business' side of the service counter!).

Major companies RESPOND better to their 'repair centers' with private phone lines, FAST repair part deliveries AND READY telephone experts who backup bench techs (who are) unable to find exotic problems!

Pixma Pro 9000 Canon Printer is printing terribly colored photos.

You need to check your nozzle check print and see if all the colors print. Also many generic inks are not the right color. Take out your yellow cartridge and see if it's still yellow, if it's orange or brown you need a new printhead, there's a membrane inside that keeps the colors separate and when it breaks you get cross contamination of the colors.

Your printer apparently needs to be cleaned, using your canon software utility. If the cleaning doesn't help, try to replace cartridges
