Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

2 Answers

We have whirlpool gold side-by side model# GS6SHEXNLOO. Ice make is not working. I have changed the control board and the water valves. Water works in the door, just no water getting to the ice maker. I've verified water is coming from the wall as well. The infrared reciever blinks on and off and goes off completely when I block the transmitter side.

    OK,

The LED does blink twice the delays one second and repeats when I have the freezer door open and the flapper door is open. When I hold the flapper door closed and DO NOT block the emitter hole the LED stays on solid. When I block the emitter hole the LED goes out.

What are other possible options?? If the optics are working properly, I've changed the control board and the water valves. I get water from the door, but no water is getting to the freezer tray. I also swapped the connectors to the watervalves. When I do I get no water from the door. I also replaced the water filter cartridge yesterday

I checked the LED as the first guy said. The LED blinks twice the a one second delay and the repeats. When I close the flapper door on the emitter side and DO NOT block the emitter hole, the LED stays on steady. If I block the emitter hole the LED goes out. i have changed the control board, thw water valves and the water filter cartridge

Sorry it's taken a while to get back with you. I'm watching my grandaughter!!

The ice maker switch is ON.

I activated the door switch (turn the light off and on 3 times) and then closed the door for 2 seconds. The LED DID Not Pulse at all. It stayed dark. I then did the check for the ice maker and optics receiver by unplugging the fridge and plugging it back in. I opend the door to view the LED output code. I would get 2 pulses and then 3 pulses. After that all I could get was 2 pulses. I did this test twice with the same results. I never got 4 pulses at any time. I also never got the LED on for 5 seconds at any time.

I also opened the freezer door and pressed the door switch closed (freezer light goes out) and closed the emitter flapper door. I think this would be the way the system would act if the door was closed and everything operating properly. I DID NOT get a LED light then either.

I'm beginning to believe I do indeed have some type of optics problem as it is not giving me the proper codes back from what you have instructed me to do. Does this sound right to you or is there something else I'm overlooking?

    Thanks,

    Whitey Cook

The first guy gave me a part# and web link for parts. I also have a local store so I'll look there as well. I can't think of any other parts in the system.

I've worked electronics on aircraft and other devices so I'm not totally ignorant as to how things work. I'm a little dissapointed in this particular model refridgerator. It's only 4 years old and I've had several problems with it.

From your info it appears this is not a single issue problem as well.

    Thank you for your assistance.

Your ice maker is electronically controlled.

Check the switch on the inside wall of the freezer to make sure that someone didn't accidentally shut the ice maker off.

To check the emitter and receiver open the freezer door and activate the door switch 3 times, and close the door for 2 seconds.

Open the freezer door and view the LED output code.

The light should pulse twice and then pause and then pulse twice.

Check the continuity of the fill valve at the back of the fridge.

To check the ice maker and optics receiver unplug the fridge then plug it back in.

You have 60 second to open the freezer door and view the LED output code.

For the ice maker you will have 3 pulses then a pause and then 3 pulses.

For the optics receiver you will have 4 pulses then a pause and then 4 pulses.

The emitter and receiver will be check again in this test with 2 pulses then a pause then 2 pulses.

If the system is good the light will be on for 5 seconds.

CLICK HERE for a more comprehensive guide to check/troubleshoot your icemaker.

It sounds to me that your Optics are at fault.

The emitter and reciever seem to be a bit buggy.
Would you like for me to search for replacement parts? or do you use a local parts store?
    Thanks

Ok, I have my chart here for the Ice Maker Blinking Codes:

Step#1: Open the freezer and view the status led

(STATUS LED)

2 BLINKS FOLLOWED BY 1 SEC. DELAY(REPEATED)

POSSIBLE CAUSES: The flapper door on the emitter is blocking the beam or the optics are faultly.

Step#2: Press the emitter flapper to unblock the optics beam

(STATUS LED)

2 BLINKS FOLLOWED BY 1 SEC. DELAY(REPEATED)

POSSIBLE CAUSES: The optics are faulty. Replace the emitter and receiver boards.

Here are the boards you can order, they come together in 1 kit with instructions:
Manufacturer part number 4389102 is RepairClinic item number 921526
We have whirlpool gold side-by side model# - 00100753.jpg4389102

If the LED is on steady: The optics are working properly.
Thanks for contacting Fixya.

The ice maker in my Whirlpool Gold (Model GI6FDRXXY07) stopped making ice. I can get water from the door and can hear the ice maker cycling. It is calling for water but the flow valve is not opening.

The same valve that the water comes from except there are two halves to the valve. The valve you need is a=> Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve WPW10312696 The problem is with these models the ice maker tends to function a little causing you to believe it is OK when they are worn out. I can point you to a manual to see if the water valve works by going to page 18 HERE and use a jumper wire between test point L and the letter V. Make sure the wire is insulated so you don't get shocked. Otherwise the ice maker may need to be changed and it is less expensive than the water control valve Ice Maker=> HERE

Ice maker is not producing ice. Water dispenser is working fine. On Whirlpool Gold Model #GS6SHAXLS03

If the ice maker is not refilling with water after its last harvest that points to the=> W10408179 Water Inlet Valve. If the ice maker just sits there with ice and does not empty into the ice bucket we will need to test the 4389102 Ice Level Control
Instructions on how to test can be found HERE If you have something else happening here please let me know, Sea Breeze
If the ice maker is not refilling with water the side of the water control valve that fills the ice maker is defective and you will still get water from the dispenser. The parts I listeed above are for your GS6SHAXLS03 refrigerator.

Ice maker works but water dispenser stopped working

There sould be a set of water control valves on rear of refrigerator and where the water comes into refrigerator dispenser and ice maker. When one goes bad you replace both. You can test the windings in each coil or test for voltage while someone presses dispense water.I will ty to locate one set with your model number. Sea Breeze

Hi. I have a Whirlpool sise by side gold

Is the freezer cold enough? Should be close to 10 degrees.
Is there water or ice in the ice mold? If not put water in it and see if it dumps the ice after it’s frozen. If there is ice, lift the cut off arm and let it drop to see if it will start.
If it does dump the ice but don’t refill with water.
Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Whirlpool Gold Ice Maker Quit Working

IF THE FRIDGE IS COOLING AND FREEZING WITHOUT AND HASSLE THEN YOU DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR CONTROL BOARDS.ALSO IF THE WATER IS STILL COMING OUT THE WATER SIDE OF IT.YOU NEED TO LOCATE THE WATER VALVE AND CHECK IF THE VALVE TO THE ICE MAKER IS NOT BLOWN THAT MIGHT BE THE CAUSE OF THE FRIDGE NOT MAKING ICE.

GOOD LUCK.
