Removing battery or resetting BIOS with jumper will not help. You should call IBM for support on this issue. All thinkpads have a three year warranty, with either return to base or on-site service. Since the R50e is a recent model, you should have no problem getting it serviced directly by IBM. Toll Free: 1-800-IBM-SERV (1-800-426-7378)

Dear john, replacing CMOS Battery usually RESET password ( plug out your laptop battery, then plug out the CMOS battery. keep it out for 5 minutes.)
After 5 minutes by, put back on the CMOS battery. put it back all together. laptop battery the last one.
On the first boot you need to set the time and date. or by pass it by pressing ESC. >> If your Operating System goes >>> right click on clock task bar >>Adjust Date/Time >> set as you wish >> apply >> ok >>>RESTART your unit.

Unlock password bios

Hi,

To unlock the bios password on your laptop, you will need to remove the cmos battery on your laptop for some minutes and insert back, the cmos battery is located on the motherboard of your laptop, once the cmos battery is removed from the motherboard for some minutes, the bios password will be reset, and fix the problem.

Take care.

It sounds as though your computer has the wrong time in the CMOS. The CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductors) is the chip that holds the basic startup information for the BIOS, system and its peripherals while the system is turned on and off.

If you can get into the BIOS check the date and time settings and make sure they are correct.

It may also be a case of the CMOS Battery going out. When this happens your computer will tend to not keep the correct time. They are cheap and relatively easy to replace. Before buying a new battery you can try to take it out and let it sit for about 10 minutes or so to reset the CMOS and then go put the battery back in and go into the BIOS and reset the clock.

Hopefully taking the battery out or replacing it will get past your lock icon asking for the password. If not then you may have to find out the manufacturer of your computer's motherboard to see if there is a common password to get past the lockout. Since it's a laptop then it should be easier to find this code based on the manufacturer.

Can't boot and forgot bios password on ibm r50e

You need to remove, or short, the cmos battery. I'll be on the motherboard somewhere, possibly under the keyboard. Remove all screws, carefully, slide back any tabs on the keyboard and carefully remove. Only do this if your warranty has expired.

Can't boot and forgot bios password on ibm r50e

Yikes. You've set a password on the BIOS and don't remember it?

Well, most manufacturers set a "backdoor" password on the bios that will allow you to get in. It used to be the backdoor PW for IBM was "merlin" but that may no longer be the case. If you absolutely cannot get in, then your option is to open the case to the laptop and disconnect the CMOS battery for about 15 seconds and then reconnect it. That will clear the CMOS to the factory defaults.

I wish you well with this.

Forgot power on password for IBM R60 thinkpad

Resetting the cmos has nothing to do with the Windows OS. It only helps you if your BIOS is password protected.

...and the whole idea of a password is, that nobody else can hack into your machine that easily, right?

Anyways - there are ways to reset a password: google is your best friend in this case. And you will need access to a CD burner, since you have to boot your laptop from the downloaded "Rescue-CD".

So wait, its asking for a BIOS/CMOS password? If so, one thing you can try to do is remove the CMOS battery. The battery is about the size of a nickel and can be found on the bottom of your laptop. You'll have to unscrew a few things to find it. Once you do, take extreme precaution when touching anything inside the computer. I would recommend getting an Anti-Static Wrist strap (sold at Best Buy). Once you locate the CMOS battery, take it out. Keep it out for about a minute and then put it back in and close everything back up. When you do this it usually resets the BIOS/CMOS password if there is one. Hope this helps!

Note removing cmos battery in some systems dont clear cmos password u have to do some additional work to remove yr password. for the battery prob try using a diff battery to be sure what ur prob is.
thank u
