Unplug the printer for 20 seconds and then plug it in and turn it on.
Does the printer power on correctly and seem to be ready to print? Are there any flashing or colored lights? If it is connected through a network you can go to the IP address of the printer and see if there are any messages in the control interface. If it is connected usb you can do the same thing through the program that installs with the drivers.
If the printer seems fine then check in Devices and Printers on your computer and double click the printer. ( For Windows, not sure on Macs ) This will tell you if it's paused or if it has a job that is stuck waiting to print. Delete any waiting jobs and unpause it if necessary.

If printing via network and you have not set a static (meaning it doesn't change) ip setting for your printer, then your ip address may have changed. IF this is the case, http://mikebeach.org/2011/03/02/assigning-the-brother-hl-2170w-a-static-ip-address/
Also, have you updated your printer driver? Be sure to go to control panel, device manager, printer, and then uninstall before installing new driver. Also, uninstall/remove the printer.

Hope this helps.

Drum error

Sounds like it's time for a new drum but, here's the reset procedure that should make the drum light go off and allow printing.

Make sure the machine is turned on and the drum light is blinking. Press and hold the "GO" button for 4 seconds (approx.) until all four lights are lit. When all four are lit, release the "GO" button. Make sure the drum light is off now. The drum is now reset.

THIS WILL NOT IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF PRINT as the drum will need to be replaced in order to do that but it will allow you to continue using the drum until it reaches and unacceptable quality.

Hope that helps you.

Print error

Replacing the drum should fix this issue. The PC drum, aka, photoconductive drum, is light sensitive, if it has been exposed long enough to light, it can cause this problem.

New toners and drums, but flashing amber error light - won't print now

Have you replaced the printer drums? The status monitor will tell you what percent they are at (similar to the toner cartridge status). This fixed my problem before.
